So your plantar fascia doesn’t do much of anything lol. It’s just passive support for the arch of your foot and it can hurt, due to things like range of motion restrictions and ankle/foot weakness. So the fact that he fully tore it means it probably doesn’t hurt anymore! All of the tension that was on the painful tissue is gone.

It is something they can fix later if needed. If he strengthens his foot enough they may not need to do anything. May need to add extra arch support in his cleat in the short term since his foot/ankle won’t be used to not having the support from the tissue.

I will add that since the position Tyler Smith plays doesn’t require much explosiveness he is fine. Whereas other positions might not be ok.

Like in the NBA Finals in the bubble, Goran Dragic tore his (idk if it was a full tear) and was out the rest of the series for the Heat. The plantar fascia is important for keeping tension in the foot for jumping, cutting, etc., but Smith doesn’t really have to do as much of that.
