Ik I missed the bus on the Weezer talk, but still thought I’d share this.

in 2018 I met a very drunk woman at the festival who was OUTRAGED they booked Weezer as a replacement headliner. She said it was the “death of punk rock” or something similarly over dramatic.

when I told her Weezer has been playing riot fest since before it became an outdoor festival she just gave me the blankest look I’ve ever seen on a human face. I don’t think my words even registered to her.

Funny to think there was a time where Weezer was the biggest act that Riot has ever booked

  3. I found out that Riot Fest existed because of the Weezer album play in 2011. Didn't end up going for a couple more years, the fest is fully intertwined with Weezer in my head.

Also: Real weird to call out Weezer as the "death of punk rock" when they also added Run the Jewels and Taking Back Sunday to the fest at the same time that year. LOL

I don’t remember 100% but I’d also like to imagine I met her waiting for Bleachers to start. Bc that would be very funny

I know the revolving Black Flag lineup has become a joke at this point but this feels like a very cheap early/mid day act. Possibly on NOFX’s stage. Something to watch

The two non-Chicago dates in Illinois stick out like a sore thumb to me. Definitely ups the likelihood of them being on the line-up. But given how close NOFX is with everyone in Flag (e.g., Keith Morris, Bill Stevenson) I don't see them being on a stage if Mike is doing any of the curating.

Given that, I'd peg them as being on Rebel. Probably second to last for their day.

FWIW Joliet is the Chicago date, but maybe it’s far enough out (time wise) they could still be on the lineup.

Depending on where you live in the city, the McHenry date is also basically Chicago (and Milwaukee for that matter).

Ah, my bad... In that case? I retract my sentiments. LOL

They’re small venues and the tour is in March. If it sells well I don’t see any reason why the band or the fest wouldn’t run it back in September for a festival a lot of people travel to.

They already did this tour last spring. They played Avondale Music Hall in Chicago. I don’t see them playing. And that isn’t a loss. I saw them when they first started playing shows with Ron Reyes singing (mostly so I could see him sing some black flag songs). The opening band was some other band that Greg Ginn had with Mike Valley and their set was like watching paint dry.

I swear to god, Avondale Music Hall does a piss poor job promoting their shows because I am literally around the corner from here and would have gone to this last year.

I just found out a few days ago that Billy Talent played there a few months ago.

so No Doubt is rumored for Coachella - nothing remotely official, but lineup should drop next week - Tragic Kingdom play at Riot would be amazing

the Slackers and Big D & the Kids Table added to Supernova - week before Riot this year, Slackers are doubtful (they usually play Chicago in December) but would love to see Big D return

also Greg Ginn's opening band on the tour with Ron Reyes was called Good for You

only way Black Flag ever play Riot is if Rollins joins them, so probably never

    Random Headliner Prediction:

    1. Deftones/The Smile (subheadliner day)
    2. MGMT
    3. Weezer

In case No Doubt reunion doesnt happen. What about Gwen Steffani as a Riot headliner or a sub? Based on her last setlists, half of her set is No Doubt covers.

Her solo stuff seems way too poppy for Riot - but I guess. The rest of the band will be free with AFI on tour - so I'd think No Doubt or no go

Tossing this in the hat if potential acts for this year. RKL are touring this year with Tony from Municipal Waste on vocals. Would be an interesting grab for Riot

From the tour forum. It seems Sum 41 is playing Orlando on September 23rd, so they might not be playing Riot

I'm pretty convinced that the sole reason this is happening in 2024 is because NOFX asked them to open up a few dates for them. So... If NOFX winds up on Riot they'd undoubtedly be on the same stage.

They're the kind of band I figured I'd be lukewarm about if they ever got back together but... Tony is the perfect front person for their whole vibe and one of maybe two replacements that would get me stoked (the other being Jay from the Suicide Machines). Really excited to see where they play.

Have The Black Keys been talked about before here? I was kind of surprised to see they’re dropping a new album soon considering how active they’ve been the last few years. Not sure why, but I’m slowly starting to think they could be in play to be a headliner

interesting (at least to me) interaction in one of the public FB groups, a guy posted about wishing for no barricade, and someone who works for riot (james) chimed in giving him shit about it.. and its a situation i see both sides on. riot could easily set up a no barricade stage for rebel if they wanted, a few other fests do it fine, but i also see all the risks that riot do not want to roll the dice on (crowd/band/people back stage safety). interesting debate in general

  25. Will people still want it when they put the insurance premium hikes into the ticket prices?

No barricade shows are certainly fun, but that's never going to happen at Riot and it shouldn't.
