Seems to be a lot of drama behind the scenes with the coaching staff, like demoting Desai for Patricia, and players in the locker room pointing fingers at each other or at coaches after recent losses, as well as making comments about how simplistic/predictable the offense is

  4. I know eagles fans weren’t necessarily sad to see Gannon leave, but it’s hard for a team to lose both coordinators and not feel it. I’m pretty sure Brian Johnson has never called plays before (I think I read Siriani gave him this duty?). And then shake-ups at DC like you mentioned…yeah it’s tough.

But they’re still loaded talent-wise and that can carry them pretty far.

Yeah, I was expecting them crash back down to earth a bit because losing both coordinators is tough, although Gannon wasn’t good when he was here. They also got worse on defense by losing both their starting linebackers and safeties so I was expecting some growing pains on defense, which is why it’s weird that they thought demoting Desai for Patricia was the move to make. Like, the defense is still a problem no matter who coaches it because your linebacker unit was and is an absolute joke

  6. I know he’s injured now, but has Nakobe Dean looked promising in the little he has played?

On offense, it’s definitely worth noting that this is the first time Brian Johnson is an OC at the NFL level and his first time calling plays. Losing Steichen hurt, but there’s too much talent on offense to be struggling on offense the way they have at various points this season. I think it leads to a Sirianni issue with his scheme, where players and analysts have noted it’s simplistic and predictable. Some were saying that last year too. They just got more lucky breaks where AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith were coming down with improbable catches.

They’re facing more two-high safeties this season than they did last year, but Sirianni and the team keep preaching about creating explosive plays. Brother, it’s time to emphasize taking what the defense is giving you and generating explosive YAC plays with Brown, Dallas Goedert, and D’Andre Swift. They haven’t been doing that as much as they should, which was resulted in Hurts missing open receivers underneath because he’s hunting for the big play and is likely being coached to do so. Still inexcusable for Hurts at times, but worth mentioning

  8. I’m willingly choosing to ignore how bad the Packers defense has been. Just gonna enjoy that second half performance and hope for more of the same.

Unfortunately, no. He played in most of the Patriots game, landed on IR, then played in three full games as a rotational player alongside Zach Cunningham and Nicholas Morrow before getting hurt again and requiring surgery. He ended his season with two TFLs, one QB hit, and half a sack

Obviously, he’s worth developing still because he’s the only LB they have under contract after this season, but he’s halfway through his rookie contract and has shown next to nothing, especially in coverage

  10. Was Siriani kinda forced to give Johnson play calling duties in order to retain him? Curious if it would’ve made since for Siriani to handle play calling while Johnson developed as an OC.

From what I understand, they weren’t at too much of a risk at losing BJ. He might’ve gotten some OC buzz elsewhere, I’d have to double check, but I never had a doubt or concern that he wouldn’t return. Handing playcalling duties made sense, as Sirianni didn’t do so hot calling plays in the first half of 2021 before handing them off to Steichen. He seems to prefer it, but it’s worth wondering if it would have been better for him to call plus again while BJ developed as an OC

I was very pro-promoting Brian Johnson too so I’m not gonna try to be all revisionist history here. A lot of Eagles best writers and analysis expected the Eagles to still be a high-flying offense this season and, while that has appeared to be the case on the surface, it has been an up and down road throughout the season both in terms of passing and running.

  13. A lot of the BJ talk for other teams seemed to be linked to AR and their history together. So it was likely never a real thing for him to bounce for another OC job.

  14. Lot of football talk in here what is this the football thread?

He has a long history with Hurts as well, which is also why I just didn’t expect him to take an OC job elsewhere when he was eventually interviewed for the gig in Philly. It sucks because I wanted him to work out for ~the vibes~ It seemed like a no-brainer more at the time. Now I’m curious if he’ll be fired after the season or if Sirianni will stick up for him and try to retain him. Would not be surprised at all if he’s gone. Howie and Lurie will be the ultimate deciders

talking football is all fine and good but we do need to mix in a little ranking of southeastern cities that nobody cares about to balance the thread

If the Texans can get in over the Colts, I’d be okay with those playoff teams
