Between all the commercials and now Taylor Swift, it’s all caught up to them

  11. It’s really not that hard to figure out why the Chiefs have taken a step or two back.

Mahomes is now taking up a huge chunk of cap. Which led to less quality in weapons around him. Simultaneously, the elite TE they leaned on with the receivers slowly declining is now in his mid 30s and less impactful.

It’s almost like it’s hard to win when you’re team isn’t as talented as it once was…

I disagree with you. The only major change at receiver was losing JuJu who cost like $11 million or so. They could have made that money work.

The offensive line has regressed (not cap related) the team leads the league in drops (not cap related) their run game is worse (not cap related - starter is a 7th round 2nd year player) they’re barely outside of the top 10 in penalties (not cap related) and Pat was visibly frustrated with Matt Nagy yesterday. There’s been tons of turnover on the coaching staff aside from Eric Bienemy leaving

Toney has lost them 2 games with his mistakes alone. They’re almost literally 2 plays away from being 11-4.

He does look a bit slower and like the hits are affecting him more. I mean he’s 3 years older than Gronk was when he retired

Would also like to say that I think Rice will have a higher ceiling than Juju anyway

And even with Mahomes cap they’re fielding the best defense they’ve had with Mahomes/Reid

  20. They’re still a really good team. I didn’t mean to suggest otherwise. But they did lose their elite weapon (Hill) and it was at least partially due to cap reasons. They also had to pay guys other than Mahomes and it definitely resulted in not being able to invest heavier into the WR position. Not saying they should’ve done things differently though. They put a lot of investment into the defense as well and that unit is a huge reason they’re a couple plays from being 11-4.

My overall point was just that once you start having to pay some of these guys, you’re going to have generally less talent spread around the field, and it gets a lot harder to win as consistently as you were previously.

Then yes I agree with your overall point but they have just as many rings with tyreek as they do without. Mahomes is the engine. You keep Mahomes upright and give him competent pass catchers (right now I think there’s maybe 3 on the team) and the train keeps moving.

Maybe if Kelce spent less time routing up Taylor Swift and more time routing up defenders, the Chiefs would be better

Could be misremembering but I think they were willing to give Tyreek more money, just not Top Of The League money. They refused to do that with Chris Jones as well. That kind of money is reserved for Pat.

Also, investing heavier in the WR position - they signed MVS (who was Good last year) and they’ve spent 2 day 2 draft picks on guys. What other moves should they have made aside from trading 1st round picks for guys like Brown or Brown (Arizona Version)?
