I didn’t even mentioned The Marvels or give a reason as to why the movies have tanked financially.

In the 10th Infinity Saga film we already had most of the characters interact with each and appear in multiple projects, we had a solid Avengers team (with 2 films), and the fall of SHIELD. By the 13th film we had the Avengers fight and break up and it felt incredibly important.

10 films and 8 shows in this saga and we don’t even know who will be on a team together and there’s no sign we’ll know within the next 3 films.

  4. I never watched Agents but I always enjoyed how they handled the Netflix shows. They felt like their own little world but they referenced the movies just enough to let you know it was the same universe.

I don't know that I would like something like DC with a parallel TV universe completely separate from the movies universe.

Isn't James Gunn planning on connecting movies, TV shows AND video games in his DC universe? That's pretty bold... and brave of him

He’s connecting all 3, yes, but not every movie, TV show, or game will be in the DCU. There will still be separate elseworlds stuff

  6. What I'd keep vs change from TV:

    WandaVision: keep
    TFATWS: should've been a movie
Loki: conflicted... it's a keep in some form but I always thought it was odd they used a TV show to introduce Kang
    What If: keep
Hawkeye: eh... should've been a Special Presentation christmas Disney+ movie
Moon Knight: should've been a movie
Ms. Marvel: didn't watch so don't know
    She-Hulk: keep
Secret Invasion: should've been a movie, with an ending that wasn't dumb
    Echo: didn't watch

  10. Yeah... Crazy how they're essentially replicating the structure of the Infinity Saga but they didn't think to have team-up movies before the final Avengers films. I overlooked how important it was to see that happen back then and to have them fight a common threat.

I get they want to take their time before regrouping the team but that has helped things feel meandering.

The MCU has never been good and this thread should be dissolved.

The fact that Secret Invasion was a long-drag of a show instead of an Avengers film with repercussions similar to Civil War is beyond me. Just a wasted opportunity. Could easily have had Thunderbolts come out of that. If needed, Young Avengers could have come out of it with the new Avengers team being disjointed or having several key members go missing.

I've never liked Secret Invasion so I'm glad it happened in a dumb show I could skip.

But anyway, to something more cheerful

What has been everyone’s top 5 “oh shit” moments?

1 - Thor arriving in Wakanda
    2 - “I knew it”
    3 - Kilmonger vs T’Challa waterfall fight
4 - Shang-Chi fighting Wenwu with the rings
5 - Cap vs Winter Soldier beneath the bridge

The first shot around the Avengers group might replace #5 on some days. I remember not caring for the MCU (aside from Iron Man) and thinking “now this finally feels like a comic book brought to life” during the final Avengers fight. That’s pretty much what got me into the franchise.

I don't know if this is what you mean, but I still remember the end of Avengers and seeing that end scene and the slow realization that the big bad was Thanos and feeling really excited about what that implied for the future.

Besides that, on a similar note, the endings of Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk confirming that yes, we're talking about the Avengers, and yes, these movies are connected. It was such a bold move full of uncertainty about whether it would be pulled off or not.

Yeah, could be an exciting “oh shit” or dreadful (like the Kilmonger v T’Challa fight)

They didn’t know the big bad was Thanos when they made Avengers. He was just there because Whedon thought he was cool and a neat choice for standard, vague sequel bait.

And, “plans” don’t matter if people aren’t invested in all the projects on their own terms.

In the age of spoilers, I find it hard to really be wowed by anything lately because I already know what happens beforehand.

That said, another one, from Endgame: "On your left." Such a great callback at the best possible moment. And then the portals open...

I was 50/50 with seeing Thanos. I thought he was going to be the big bad for Avengers 2 and felt that would be incredibly rushed after the Avengers just formed.

Oh shush. I just think the “trust the plan” narrative is super silly and worth interrogating, lol.

(If “plans” were all it took, then we’d have Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4 and Sinister Six and Cyborg and Man of Steel 2 and a Boba Fett movie and the Dark Universe.)

Some of this hyper defensive MCU stanning sometimes feels like a significantly less destructive version of QAnon, lol. It’s weird.

    Assume It's A Bit

    1. Andrew showing up in NWH
    2. Thanos snapping
    3. "On your left" (Endgame)
    4. Thor, Groot, and Rocket showing up in Wakanda
    5. QUEENS (Civil War)

There's probably others I'd put on there ahead of these, this is just off the top of my head

I’m pretty sure marvel was going to initially have Thanos be the villain of Avengers 2 (they didn’t decide that until after Avengers 1 had released). Whedon said no, told them to let Thanos slowly be built up, and went with Ultron as the villain for Avengers 2 instead.

That allowed Marvel to lay the blocks for Infinity War/Endgame years in advance. They incorporated more infinity stones. Slowly itched towards Thanos while allowing most of the films in phase 3 stand on their own while keeping them relatively connected so the audience could bridge them together. The heydays of the mcu for sure. The best part: the plan actually paid off.
