Yeah I just can’t invest anything into this team when they’re not even trying to compete.

 

The red sox seeming unwillingness to compete post the mookie trade has flabbergasted me to the point of i hope a true crime podcast intervenes soon

 

They seem perfectly happy to just stay a relatively cheap Mid team that they know will sell out every game no matter what. It’s so frustrating. Just sell the team already.

 

Growing up in Pittsburgh, and watching games with my grandma, I don’t think I could really fully separate from the Steelers. It’s so pervasive in the culture here. There have been periods in my life that I’ve been less into them and times I’m
More into them, but never going away.

I enjoy the Penguins at arms length, but I don’t have cable and there are too many games to keep up with.

I generally don’t like baseball, and I like the Pirates organization even less.

I don’t like basketball much.

I’ve thought about finding a soccer team to follow, but that seems hard to do. I do really like soccer though as a sport.

I didn’t stop watching the Jags because of Zay Jones or Dede Westbrook, and it took 10-11 regular season weeks of Urban Meyer before I turned that shit off. Perhaps I’ve been “fortunate” we never featured either receiver in a major role… or that Meyer kept stooping to new lows to the point we fired him after less than one season. But it’s definitely an arbitrary line I’m drawing in the sand, like “oh well I’m not rooting for the abuser and they only negatively / rarely positively impact the team and aren’t even there for more than a contract, so I can hate them while rooting for the team”.

not really sure why - in my brain, I should stop watching football because unpunished foul play is rampant throughout the league and trying to convince yourself “well MY team doesn’t do it AS bad” is bullshit -

but in my heart, walking away from the Jags is walking away from all my friends and experiences in my hometown and one of maybe 2-3 things I can bond with my dad and a way that I’ve met and socialized with a large portion of my male friends etc. Plus the memories of having BEEN AT like 40% of the Jags’ historically important home games lol, that’s never going to stop waxing poetic no matter what ugliness I learn about the world as an adult

so idk I guess my opinion is I’m disappointed that I can’t bring myself to let my convictions override my nostalgia. And my, like, sunk cost fallacy of “rooting for the Jags can’t get any WORSE right? Eventually the scales will tip and they’ll win and I won’t care as much after that right?” Idk. It’s a cognitive dissonance mess. I almost don’t want to let go before I’ve seen the SB win I’ve been hoping for my whole life.

 

I go into every Bucs season thinking they will be shite and they usually are

I've experienced winning a super bowl as a kid and an adult, so I'm content with my fandom

 

More background (this is long-ish but, I felt like typing lol)

 

legitimately the most i’ve ever watched of the bucks was when we won 14 games all year. i think i watched 79/82. every game we lost was my super bowl

and then uhhh we drafted a guy who already had a ligament issue in his knee that was out of the league before he was 28 instead of Embiid

 

Josh Jackson over De'Aaron Fox then Deandre Ayton over Luka and JJJ the following year. Then Jalen Smith over Haliburton.

We went Josh Jackson over Fox, Ayton over Luka, Culver over Coby, and Jalen Smith over Haliburton all in a row. And now we won't make another draft pick until the 2040s which like, hey I guess we can't fuck up a pick we don't have so

 

yeah people complain about the bucks trading picks and it’s like guys we’ve had one good first rounder in like a dozen years lol

Already did! It’s weird though quitting on the league altogether has been much harder. I think I have just spent so much of my life invested in the nfl season and enjoying it with friends and family. And having so much knowledge on the sport even though I still don’t know what a catch is it’s just hard to not want to casually watch a few games every week. Overall I think I like it more just watching games that interest me, but I do wish I didn’t have to hate watch the browns among browns fans. If the league wasn’t so gross it would be fun to just be a Rob Lowe generic nfl fan.
