That looked fucking awesome. And the costumes seem to translate to live action a lot better than One Piece imo

But yeah, we shall see if they butcher the story

I think the trailer looks good. As good as one could be for a live action cartoon.

I really need to see how Aang sounds and the chemistry between the actors. That’s the make-or-break.

they showed most the main characters except toph right?

also that guy looks so much like sokka

 

It’s probably doubtful that Toph will show up in the first season unless as a teaser at the end

 

ah maybe i was misremembering when the kyoshi warriors episode was

 

Yeah I’ve rewatched the two series way too many times. Lol. Kyoshi warriors make their first appearance in Book 1, while Toph doesn’t show up until 2

 

The one thing I hope they find a way to keep (which I thought one piece did well) is the zany cartoon humor. I want the tone to stay like the cartoon

 

Toph is the Frank Reynolds of Avatar. Doesn’t show up (to an already great show) until season 2 but somehow takes over and becomes essential.

Also enjoys picking things out of her toes just like Frank.

Something just feels...off. The trailer doesn't have the charm of the cartoon. Who knows though, maybe it will carry the same amount of charm and the trailer just had bad selections.

 

There is simply no need for a "live action" version. The cartoon will always look better. The costumes don't look lived in and come across like cosplay etc. Hopefully it brings even more interest to the Avatar Studios stuff though.

i'm with @dpatrick23, this show doesn't NEED a live action version and any attempt they make is gonna be inferior immediately
and i also think Sokka's actor feels as bad as whatever guy did the Shyamalan version, he really didn't deliver his lines with any sense of personality, it was SO flat

one of my biggest gripes with these adaptation's takes is that they seem to fundamentally misunderstand part of the appeal of the show, Aang trying to maintain his childhood and innocence in the face of the horrible war and responsibility he's been given.
like, it should be comedic at it's core with the dramatic tension always bubbling underneath- but this is again just showing us all drama and seriousness. the slightly better casting isn't fooling me into thinking this is gonna be decent

 

Pretty much sums up my reservations about this (it wasn't necessary and was never going to be better and the serious tone makes the whole thing feel off). That said, I'm absolutely going to give this a fair chance. It looks fun and looks like it was handled with care which is really all I can ask for, but I won't be surprised or bummed if it's just okay.

 

I mean I’ll check it out, but I really only care about the movies and whatever else Avatar Studios has in the pipeline

So basically they took out the character arc for Sokka lol

 

I expected plotlines like this would get cut for time, but it is really disappointing. I am going in with an open mind to changes, but I have a suspicion that their take on Sokka won't work. I hope they have another character arc in mind for him that feels natural and that he's not just there because he was a major character in the show and is just spinning his wheels.

 

Yeah I really don’t know what they’ll do with his character. The first season of the show was a big development for Sokka because of his view, only to change it once he meets Suki. Taking that arc out really diminishes his role in season 1.

 

I'm sure they'll just lean more into the other part of his (related) arc. At the beginning, he's a kid who struggles with self-confidence issues and doesn't think he can live up to being a leader one day as an adult.

I think this idea can still sustain most of his character, but on the other hand, the whole "misogynistic" part of his character still had a lot to do with this arc so I don't know. His self-confidence issues at the beginning have lot to do with the fact that he's the only male left at the Southern Water Tribe. He feels like he's stuck with all of the "dumb girls" when he should be out fighting with the rest of the men. So I don't know, those two points of character development still kind of go hand-in-hand.
