i love get right sooooo much in the context of the album. for some reason the verses and chorus sound way catchier to me since i've been listening to the whole album haha no idea why that is

  2. Anyone else getting some light Pinback vibes in Pretty Grids? Or is that totally just me?

After three listens I still feel that I'm no position to list favorites, haha. As of right now every song could feasibly be in my favorites. I need more time for things to settle before I can make a judgement about that.

Hearing "Get Right" in the context of the record gives me the same good vibes I get from "Pain" in the context of Futures. The power of sequencing lemme tell ya

f'real. when a lot of people were saying that "get right" was the "pain" of this record i was like "well.....it's not nearly as good" but i'm starting to change my mind.

This album and I are going steady. No reason to rush into anything.

"through" is quintessential jimmy. most of the songs on here take time to develop and have a lot of room to breathe (which i love and appreciate) but i really love how "through" doesn't waste any time getting to the point. reminds me of "feeling lucky" in that sense, though i enjoy "through" a lot more than that song.

oh and re: "through" it contains my favorite lyric on the record thus far. haven't paid a tonnnn of attention to them yet so i'm sure it could/will change.

keep in mind there's a big big difference between letting go and running away

Piggybacking off of the various conversations going on here, the rhythm(s) of this album, both within each song and through the tracklisting, is fantastic.

mentioned earlier today that the title track hadn't totally clicked with me yet. happy to report that's not the case anymore.

It's a good song in the context of the album, came at a good time. But not sure i'll play it as a solo song itself.

It reminds me a lot of "Beautiful Is" crossed with the "If it's your name in lights . . ." part of "Cut". I also think it could've made a good opening track on a different album, or at least a different tracklisting of this album.

Driving over to see this in Mesa, AZ right now.

Followed by record release party and show tomorrow.

Yeah, you can call this a Jimmy Eat World weekend.

My quick thoughts on the record:

Surprisingly having a little more trouble getting into it than other JEW records. I'm highly addicted to their soaring choruses from Futures, Bleed, Chase This Light and these are more subdued, but I feel the more time I spend with it, the more I'll be amazed.

    What a great band.

i'm writing a book, leave me alone.

i think i would like / connect with "The End is Beautiful" a lot more if i had absolutely anything to relate it to. still a pretty good song, but there's no depth connection for me.
