Ehh, I think this will just increase the "culture war" that will already be insufferable during election year. I can already hear the other side saying "Look! They're telling us what they plan to do."

I’m going to write a long post at some point about common ground for a potential California / Texas alliance because, while it doesn’t feel plausible now, i don’t think it’s as outlandish as people seem to think.

The Plemmons scene looks great, not so sure how the rest of this is gonna pan out and I’m really not looking forward to any discourse around it like at all. I’ve kind of floated into the “is Alex Garland actually any good?” Camp, Men was pretty bad, and I’m cooler on Ex Machina than most, I do love Annihilation though.

Eh. Idk. Men was so hamfisted that it made me question everything. And there’s way more than a handful who are better.

I am certainly capable of being a dumb guy, but Annihilation/Devs/Ex Machina are three of my favorite things put out in the past decade and I feel like they have a very unique voice to them. Men is definitely pretty whatever though (although i did like how over-the-top the ending sequence was) - hamfisted is the right word it.

There are still some great images in Men, i just thought Jesse Buckley wasn’t a real character, which is weird for a movie trying to be incisive about capital M Men. Ex Machina, is good, I just never regarded it as the masterpiece some think it is, definitely not a bad movie. All I’m saying is I think he has more work to do to truly win me over. I’m not sold on this trailer.

Annihilation has won him at least interest in his next 2-3 projects from me.

I agree that Men was not very good. Also I didn’t say he was the best.

I have read articles from academics about what a 21st century civil war in America would actually look like, and the answer is that it won't be divided among states like the original civil war. It would be widely dispersed with asymmetrical fighting across the most of the country.

Instead of state vs state, it'd be more like the conservative rural and suburban parts of a Blue state vs the state's urban liberal population center or vice versa for Red states.

Absolutely. There are states where they can easily be categorized as purple states and those would be hellish. States don't really make much sense when from county to county there can be such a drastic difference in cultures/religion, etc.

Right the 2nd Civil War really would probably start like tens of thousands of dudes from state's red counties storm the State Capitols and urban centers with AR15s en masse across the entire country, with the US military caught in between. red and blue states alike.

Florida would be a fucking nightmare in a 2nd civil war. Tampa, St. Pete, Orlando, and Gainesville would be burned to the ground.

If I could just forget it

Every major city would. It would be an unmitigated disaster. Pray it never happens.

Also if you're going to do a hypothetical scenario where the US balkanizes it would make more sense to do it by Megaregion
