Hate to say this my vinyl peeps, but my 2024 New Years resolution is to stop buying so much vinyl. The prices of $40+ these days are getting insane and I feel guilty if I don't spin a record atleast like 20 times before it hits the shelf. With well over a few hundred albums I feel like I rarely play 90% of them anymore.
For 2024 I want to try and revisit all the albums I've collected over the past decade.

 

Yeah it's pretty bad. I've had a rough year personally and I can say that being more financially responsible is one of my goals for next year.

The pandemic and lockdown allowed me to bank in so much extra money and because everything was shut down, I would just spend money on vinyl. As soon as life got back to "normal" my spending (and mental health) did not.

I won't get more into details personally but it's definitely a dangerous rabbit hole and with the cost of vinyl and even shipping prices imthe hobby is getting rough.

 

It’s why at this point I exclusively shop at Grimey’s in person in Nashville. They are committed to keeping their used section at bottom end (and until this year, below) Discogs prices. It’s foolish financially to shop anywhere else. I just wait until someone doesn’t want it and then I score!

 

I hope to be a much wiser record shopper next year now that I have a solid collection foundation. My credit card balance is insane. Small monthly payments, right?

 

Super pretty variant—I will just throw it out there that I've had the worst experience with Revolver, still waiting on the pressing of Disambiguation I ordered well over a year ago now.

 

Seasick in Birmingham does the same thing. I am getting to the same point. Get a repress if it's a grail, get a new release if it wows me or is one of my favorite bands, otherwise I'll just check out the used drops and buy local.

 

Same! I cant believe it... I just went on their website today to look up the estimated time and it says they are pressed but shipping is TBD...

 

Yeah it's truly wild haha. 2024 is gonna be our year.

 

I think I need to start speaking my buddies mantra "everything's gets a repress, eventually!" as seen this year. (Coheed, ETID etc)

 

It helped a ton by separating NEEDS from WANTS.

NEEDS - Limited pressings, new releases from favorite bands: I need it now

WANTS - Nostalgia-powered emo album on its 9th repress: I want it, but can wait

 

I'm scared for the next two years. 04-05 was when I started to discover more albums so could see a lot of repress-es

 

I'm gonna take up crocheting by that point.

I bought so many records this year. I am truly fucked for the '04-'08 repress run we are likely about to go on.

 

I just hope we get enough notice so i can run over to my preferred streaming platform to see if I still *feel something* when listening to said album

 

We had so much good fortune with represses this year that I'm getting my hopes up for Butch Walker's Letters in 2024. My head would explode.

 

Yup. Must exercise caution. Going to need to separate the needs VS. The wants.

I wish my collection and tastes were "meat and potatoes" at times like these.

Tbh I’ve otherwise already snagged a lot of the exciting mid 00s ones during their 10 year anniversaries. 2013/14 was when I really hit the gas on collecting

 

I'm still hoping someone decides to press All the Stars and Boulevards!!

Podcasts on vinyl are truly stupid, but here I am with my second one. Been waiting for this for years after some issues with pressing.
