Insurance usually covers it, so the cost is your glass deductible. I've intentionally always kept mine low ($0 or $100) because between kayaks, birds, and deer, statistically I replace several windows in a decade. Think I've done two windshields and one window so far.

Out of pocket, that $250-400 seems right; depends on if your car is new enough to have the forward sensing stuff...if it does, that has to be calibrated which adds to the cost

however i carry comprehensive coverage which you may not, living on long island having to drive on the LIE as often as i do around trucks and 18 wheelers, shit flies around the road pretty often. it would be $400-500 without comprehensive through state farm which is what i carry now.

Yeah, I replaced 2 windshields in like 3 years and saw no premium jump.

I guess we have comprehensive coverage, I had no idea, my wife handled all of that when we were getting insurance while buying the house lol.

And this depends on your insurance company, but yeah, comprehensive is key as shit. That was my "when I hit a deer in WV" policy, which amazingly I never used. But its like 1/4 the cost of your collision, and covers stuff like theft, animals, weather, etc.

I think both Progressive and State Farm also then had a separate glass deductible piece of the coverage. I always left my collision at a mid-level deductible (like $500-1000), and then kept my comprehensive and glass as close to zero as possible because they cost like, $30-40/term and you use them once, they pay themselves off for multiple years. If I was in a city with common theft (see: San Fran) or in my case, I spent a lot of time on gravel roads and/or behind coal trucks, you get your moneys worth quick.
