They just said they weren’t stopping any time soon and to be on the look out for big announcements in 2024

Hoping for an album announcement but I'm in for anything they do. I'm still just so happy to have this band back.

Do any older Yellowcard fans from So cal recall Yellowcard ever playing high schools in 2003 before Ocean Ave came out?

Reason I ask is because Yellowcard played my high school, Arroyo High School in El Monte, CA (20 miles east of LA), during lunch some time around Spring 2003. I'm 32 and was still too young to witness it however my current partner and older brother were able to see it.

My school used to allow bands to play as long as one of the band members attended our high school. Apparently a fairly popular senior that year who played in a band requested that his band play. Well his band didn't play but it was in fact a friend's band (which turned out to be Yellowcard).

My school had no idea a band that was pretty popular locally was going to be playing our school. The friend and Yellowcard posted bulletins on MySpace saying they were playing at our school. I was told the actor who played Squints from Sandlot (Chauncey Leopardi) was a Yellowcard fan and in attendance. He also posted a bulletin about the show before it happened.

Although gates to leave the school were closed to enter the school, this didn't stop anyone since hundreds of kids started jumping the gates. Yellowcard plays and the area is flooded with hundreds of kids who didn't attend our high school. Apparently they had to shut it down after a few songs or so because it was way too crowded and they had no idea that many people would be there for a band they had no idea was popular.

I didn't know who Yellowcard was at the time but I remember my brother telling me about the show and that a lot of his friends were fans of the band. A few months later that summer, I'm watching MTV and Yellowcard's Way Away was playing. My brother commented how that's the same band who played our high school. I thought that was pretty cool and that was the first song I heard from Yellowcard.

A year later and Ocean Avenue was all over the radio and Yellowcard was playing Warped Tour that summer. That was my first concert ever and i got to see Yellowcard that day.

I've heard the story many times from my brothers friends, older brothers of friends, etc and while I wasn't there myself, I think that's still a pretty cool story.

So I posted it on Reddit and someone was able to find Yellowcard's old website from archives. Looks like they were playing high schools all over the US during lunch time the spring before Ocean Avenue came out in 2003 while on tour. They were playing shows at a venue the same night as the lunch time shows. My high school's show must have been the same day as an LA date so it makes sense why so many people showed up and it got out of hand, since Yellowcard rebranded themselves as an LA band after moving from Florida.

This is very cool to see.

They played my high school actually. The mic wasn't really working though so it was mostly an instrumental show haha

I just listened to WYTTSY and Southern Air for the first time in awhile- and wow what an era that was. I was in my young 20s at the time of their releases and those records bring back such strong memories. Damn near had a tear in my eye with the bridge in “Be the Young”.

Is there something I am missing as to why people would be bummed by this? Seems kinda fun to me, I don't really mind it at all.

I personally have essentially zero interest in remixes in general. There are exceptions, of course, but a remix is just never going to be a thing I would be excited by. But I’m sure it’s good and many will enjoy it. I’ll listen once and likely never give it another thought.

Actually, I'm more than fine with this. I hated the TBS remix, but that band met Tushar Apte during that process, and he ended up producing what I feel is TBS's best album yet. Perhaps this collaboration leads to a different take on their sound for the new album??? It's a little out there, but I'm open to these remixes because of the benefits it could bring to their future recording process. Not saying that YC needs to pull a TBS or anything, but a fresh perspective was a big benefit for them.
