    I agree!

teams should throw underneath to their best players more often. Look at CMC. Look at Deebo Samuel.

Press Taylor wasnt ASS today but he wasn’t good, and one of the things I didn’t like was the refusal to throw to Etienne in space. We tried it once in the first quarter and then abandoned it until garbage time. What gives, we were doing it all day early in the season and it was actually helping our inside running game, cause the lateral passes / motions / screens were forcing the defense to go back and forth and respect his pre-snap motion and respect the edge.

Players like CMC and Deebo are rare, but I agree with your point overall. In fact, that’s what I love about watching the Niners offense. Kyle puts already great players who can win their one on ones in even better positions to succeed. I’ve been critical of him as a head coach from culture, team building, resource allocation, and decision making standpoints, but his offenses have always been sweet. So much so that I was actually interested in the Eagles hiring Mike McDaniel as a potential OC a couple years ago or so.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Sirianni is the kind of guy who will run anything close to that offense. I always hear or read about his scheme being very basic, just about his dudes winning their one on ones and just being better than the guys they’re up against. There was a graphic that showed up in the game tonight that they utilize motion about 35% of the time, which ranks lowest in the league (league average is around 55%).

He usually just lines his guys up and tells them to win, which makes it harder for everyone and, even though they’ve all very good, it could be easier! He could make things easier on Hurts too by giving him quicker reads or giving him coverage tells with notion, among other things, but the offense is just so static

As far as Mike Caldwell… bruh you gotta call zone coverage sometimes. Lol. You have to. It’s like a fucking classroom in here on how to beat man-to-man.

Cincy just killed you all day with motion and screens, and now Cleveland forced two coverage bust, long touchdowns that won them the game, by lining up in power running formations, to get 10 people in the box, and throwing behind them over the middle of the field.

we had our fun as an aggressive man coverage team early in the season but at the end of the day our corners aren’t quite elite and we don’t have enough dawg back there to keep pulling that off. We got hot, but that heat has cooled off.

Campbell and Cisco are having injured, off seasons. Darious Williams is making elite plays but slipping up on his footwork in key situations. Our slot corner position is a revolving door. And the worst part is, not only does the whole league now have film on how to beat our aggressive scheme with even an average QB… but when we do call zone, we suck at it cause we don’t practice it! Nobody is playing instinctive, they hesitate, they don’t close gaps until it’s too late, etc

there’s a reason why there’s balance in the league. Even a team that identifies with physical man to man is gonna get forced to call some zone like 40+ percent of the time if they don’t wanna keep getting exposed. Nothing in the league consistently works if it it’s too expected and too obvious. We’ve gotten exposed too many times (HOU, SF, last two weeks) now for me to let it slide. We almost let New Orleans back in the game too.

we did it just as often today as we did all season. our running game has been bad all year too aside from like two games. OL is just ass.

should draw up more of those plays cause they work! Etienne is an awesome receiver. Shouldn’t be limited to 3 or 4 catches.

I mean yeah but it’s also how we use it. Why is Etienne running inside from shotgun so often. Would it kill us to give him a lead blocker and a head start sometimes? Or, would it kill us to just embrace being an outside running team more often?

There were so many snaps Trevor needed a quick receiver to throw to. I get that Etienne was helping block. A lot of those snaps Trevor threw it in 1.5 seconds anyway so the guy didn’t even get to Etienne, he coulda ran more routes

Late to the party but I assume someone in the world has made a tweet showing Toney lined up offsides and Chris Jones lined up offsides in the AFCCG way back when and asked, “which one is the dumber”, yes?

And I think I would be in the camp that the Jones offsides was dumber as I think he was closer to the ball and outrageously more offsides than Toney was (but both were very very dumb decisions by both players)

I should probably mentally prepare for choking the division away and then losing to GB in the playoffs huh

Having Montez Sweat terrorize Goff yesterday made me even more mad we didn’t try to trade for him or Chase Young. Imagine pressuring the QB. Couldn’t be us.

Dee Ford was the defender offsides for the Chiefs and I think that’s gotta be the dumber play because it would have been the end of the game and the Chiefs would have gone to the super bowl. Higher stakes
