in all honesty, I don't see myself enjoying it that much because I'm very much not into the 'romantasy' genre that has exploded in popularity recently. This is me giving into the hype, because there's a part of TikTok/Instagram that is obsessed with this book and it's ilk. I usually never give into hype, but if it's bad, I want to know why it's bad lol

Got my gift! Thank you to whoever sent The Riddle-Master of Hed. And a classic version! I’ll be starting that ASAP. Haven’t read any McKillip but it’s highly rated!

I hope you like it! I opted for old school this time around. It's the only series of hers I've read so far and her prose is beautiful. Eager to see what someone else thinks!

    @a_cuppa_joe has immaculate handwriting.

Thanks for City of Brass! I’ve picked this book up and put it back down well over 20 times.

Started Dungeon Crawler Carl. Have I mentioned that I fucking love cats? I'm gonna love this book. I recently watched Alice in Borderland (which is a very good show) and this is giving me major vibes for that.

Love Alice in Borderland, too! Good comp! One thing I love about the levels of the series is that it allows for genre exploration and expansion and it all makes sense. There’s high fantasy, sci-fi, somewhere in between. So good.

I just started reading it after seeing it mentioned in the thread. I’m up to book three and from what I’ve read I can only imagine how unhinged the audiobooks must be when narrated like @Garrett said.

The AI saying “New Achievement” lives rent free in my head at all times.

I hope the narrators voice sounds as sassy as I imagine the AI is.

I listened to a clip on youtube and not at all what I was expecting. Like a John Wayne “howdy partner” drawl. Feels pulpy as all hell which is great. I love his Princess

Yeah, it’s a long book haha. I really enjoyed this one. Very Souls-y and full of brutality but the story itself is amazing and I love how Ardalan writes. Hope you enjoy!

Time to finish The Second Apocalypse by Bakker. The Great Ordeal was one of the best in the series. The Unholy Consult already off to a great start.

This quartet is free on Audible plus right now and I threw it in my library on a whim. Glad to see it's worthwhile.

It's the absolute best. Maybe my favorite fantasy behind Malazan, there might be something I'm forgetting but it's at least in the running.

Also the last book is my favorite, so imo it only gets better.

It’s a 7 book series just as a heads up (2 sub series). Prince of Nothing is the first trilogy then The Aspect-Emperor is the quarter. Absolutely necessary to start with Prince of Nothing

I can’t admit to understanding a good chunk of what Bakker is trying to say but the journey, the prose, the imagery, the action, the politics. All top tier. It’s still a really hard series to recommend due to the content but it’s one of the best things I’ve ever read. It’s certainly not an easy read haha.

Well then it may take a lot longer, as those aren't free, haha.

yeahhhh, unfortunately Bakker has a pretty bad relationship with the publisher of this series and the books in general are a bit hard to find (at least in a matching set), but the audiobooks are all available! Apparently you can barely find his books in any format within his home country of Canada. It's wild

Another book that looks dope that I haven't heard of. When all the books are out someone should compile them all into one posts.

Sidenote, if you want to read one of the most terrifying serial killer thrillers this side of Silence of the Lambs, check out Bakker's Neuropath. Truly horrifying.

I wish he wrote more (specifically would finish the Second Apocalypse but I don't even know if that's still the plan)
