I mean, that's not just an opinion, it's true. The Pels have drafted extremely well the last few years, a bench of Herbert Jones, Jose Alvarado, Jordan Hawkins, Najee Marshall, Dyson Daniels (all promising young players) is pretty deep. But injuries to our starters are a MAJOR concern cause basketball is all about chemistry and momentum, Pelicans have been unable to build that, which affects a young team that is more vulnerable to collapsing under pressure. Even when guys come back from injury, the team doesn't gel.

I'm not saying we shoulda beat the Lakers but how badly we lost was definitely unusual. None of our shooters were hitting. The last few games have also definitely exposed a major flaw that would kill us in the actual playoffs - Although we can create turnovers and our defense is usually good because of that, our perimeter defense SUCKS, teams hit 3s on us like it's practice, at some point teams shooting above 40% beyond the arc vs the Pelicans is not just us getting unlucky and playing hot teams,. and it's about how we're failing to respond when they GET hot.

I wouldn't call them one of the best young teams. Thunder, Magic, and Pacers.

we'll revisit this later this season if the top 5 starters can magically stay healthy for once

I’m sure the highs are great, I wouldn’t know since I stopped caring before my favorite teams won anything, but my life definitely improved once the outcome of sports games stopped effecting my emotions. Except now I started gambling and it’s happening again to a lesser extent lol

Not staying healthy is a contributing factor but CJ and Jonas are in their 30s and Ingram/Herb are 25+. I just wouldn't consider them to be a young team

This though. To have players 6-10 all be only in their 1-3rd year in the league represents potential, and every one of those players except Naji is really good at SOMETHING to where it's believable they might be a starter at some point in their careers. (like, Dyson Daniels is not a scorer but his ability to steal the ball is insane.) Herb already starts some games depending on how much we need his defensive prowess vs Trey's range. It's the equivalent of having a strong focus on the farm system in baseball.

Trey Murphy has only had 2 games that were good since coming back injury, but he's coming off missing 19 games so I'm holding off on that. Zion straight up re-proves himself as a threat every time he gets back in the game so I'm not worried about him as long as he's on the court. A team with only 3 vets and 7 players with promise in their first 3 years is a "young team" even though the Pels tend to draft 4-year college starters rather than 19 year olds.

I'd rather have the reverse. Young great core with reliable veterans off the bench.

That's fair. I just think we have a lot of players that have individually proven themselves as really good draft picks for their position, so I'm anxiously awaiting how they'll look in a couple weeks with everyone finally together. Cause my thought is we have the depth to make a clear difference in our overall game performance, to where I do believe we'd compete with a core of CJ / Ingram / Zion. Even our 10th man Dyson Daniels is more of a contributor than a liability.

If Zion gets hurt again this year though I give up and the Pels should too. And this in-season tournament collapse / blowout definitely shed light on how much the team still needs to grow together this year to have a chance.
