This is so vile, either they didn't think Netanyahu would take every inch they gave him and turn it into mile in which case they're fucking morons, or they just don't care and are waiting until they feel like Israel has "done enough" and they can give the signal to stop bombing like they did in 2021. This should put to bed any "Biden is secretly working behind the scenes for a ceasefire" nonsense

 

I mean yes, but also Biden did brag about how in 2021 he told them they "had no more runway" and they listened. I think the runway is a lot longer here and the actual message from the US to stop might take a bit more diplomatic grappling to get listened to but the principal is the same, Biden could stop this when he wanted to and probably will eventually, the question is just what he lets happen beforehand. Of course this would also be a political consideration not a moral one

 

I don't know how you can possibly conclude that from what's up there lol. Those are two completely different topics--trying to negotiate a peace between the two sides that both sides can agree to vs. forcing one side to do what you say. You can do the first before resorting to the second.

 

The topic is ending the genocide being done with our approval and weapons and in my name? I would think you'd be about ready to "resort" to a lot of things once a million people are people displaced. The point is any administration rhetoric shift is cynical, it may reflect actual attitude shifts but never for the stated reasons. If Biden wants this done it's for his benefit, has nothing to do with the violence

This is the dumbest thing to be mad about right now. It's a shift in the direction we want! My first reaction to that isn't "Biden is only doing this to benefit himself" lol. My first reaction is "good, sounds like the State Department is shifting a little bit, hopefully that continues". I already assume pretty much any move a politician makes, especially if it's a change in previous stance, is to benefit themselves politically.

 

People: Biden and the government should start putting pressure in Israel to back off!

Like obviously keep putting pressure on them to go further than these statements, but also, you know, take the W on the shift you're causing and be willing to at least say "Okay this is a good development." You don't even have to give them credit! I see no need to say "Good job Biden Admin" just based on that transcript. But if politicians see positive reactions ("this is a good development") to the moves they make, they tend to do more of that thing that got them that reaction!
