This year's draft for Pittsburgh has been insane. Our top 3 picks are now starters and performing at the top of their rookie position classes. Darnell Washington is great at what he does, and heck, even Nick Herbig has 2 sacks on the season coming off the bench.

I'm not sure what their physical criteria is, I can guarantee he is not passing any strength testing for his calf though. Full function is being able to do a single leg calf raise and there is no way in hell is able to do that right now.

I mean we’re a man-to-man heavy team so the chart measures us better than it measures teams like the Cowboys

for a man to man heavy team that doesn’t coach off-man style man coverage, it’s accurate - you’re either good at it and you allow very little separation, or you’re not and you allow a lot of separation

but most defenses in the NFL avoid calling too much press / mirroring man coverage for various reasons (usually because it puts even a good secondary at risk of giving up random big plays) and their entire philosophy is to have corners sit back further where they can actually read the play rather than one man.

They trust their corners’ reaction time and tackling ability in the event of a pass underneath, and sometimes the reason they play conservative in the back 7 because their front 4 is extremely good and all the secondary has to do is play damage control while they wait for the opposing QB to make a mistake under pressure. These defenses excel at getting takeaways cause the focus is on the QB, not the receivers.

That’s basically how the Cowboys play and why Bland isn’t getting rated as high by this chart. Separation percentile doesn’t appropriately measure what Bland’s whole job is and why he’s good at it
