I’ve always thought some of the penalty decisions given are so unbalanced as a consequence for what happened. I feel like a lot of penalties come from fouls or rulings that aren’t actually preventing a goal, and yet a team is given a massive opportunity for a goal. It isn’t a free goal, but it kinda is.

But I also understand, and ultimately agree, with why it’s just a blanket rule. Anything in the box is a penalty. It erases any further judgement from the refs and without it, we’d inevitably have a shitshow every week.

Yellows in Europe really are a lottery. It’s just based on who can cry more.

Yeah I know what you mean by this, but I don't remember referees causing THIS much of a fuss when they actually had more input tbf. But that could be rose tinted glasses I guess.

 

Obviously they most likely won't play, but these are two of the highest rated youngsters in England and it's great to see them get chances in the first team setup. Also, at 16 and (just) 17, they make me feel absolutely ancient.

The CL handball on Sissoko is forever the example I’ll use of a completely undeserved goal that was awarded because of something that happened when there was very little threat of a goal happening otherwise. Ruined the game just a few minutes into it.
