Assist in a distress call? No way.

Spray water at Filipino workers before chasing them, crash Vietnamese boats, and cry when someone is in international waters? Absolutely.

No don’t say that or you’ll be gaslighted by real wage growth numbers. Everyone including you are doing better than ever no matter how much you’re actually struggling with expenses

The point of real wage growth numbers would be to say that a person has XXX amount more in income to spend now though. Like if expenses went up X and wages also went up X, then people are just in the same situation they were two years ago. Spending numbers definitely indicate people are still feeling okay despite the way they're answering polls. Usually when people say the economy is this bad and they're struggling financially, we see a pullback in consumer spending, but that hasn't been the case. That makes sense with the idea that wages for certain groups kept up with inflation, and for the ones that didn't it seems like a 4-5% gap according to that article.

That being said, this is definitely something that will effect people differently, assuming those "basics" include housing costs as the article says. Older people and people with homes already aren't going to be hit by that big of a number because their mortgages are already locked in. Same with transportation--people that just bought cars and locked in rates before 2022 aren't gonna be seeing that big of an increase either for obvious reasons. Probably why people under 30 are the ones most angry at the economic conditions.

Article broke it down by states too which was interesting to see. Colorado was the highest, wild how people continue to move there despite the soaring costs.

Re Ted Cruz on Israel: Conservatives being hypocritical is no surprise. Would love to see liberals pressed more on their hypocrisy on the same issue right now. At least there’s a chance of holding them accountable

Oh god I’m sorry I asked lol

I will say the scholastic book fairs were problematic when I was in school but because of economic reasons. I always felt awful on those days because my parents were never going to give me money to buy books at their prices so I just walked around looking at things I wanted and watched everyone get cool stuff. Other people seem to have had this experience. Not sure if they still do it the same but it just seemed like a money making scheme rather than getting kids into reading, certainly not poor kids anyway.
