They got a sweetheart deal, they skip all the holiday weeks, and work basically every other week. It'd be real funny if they had an NBC-like opt out, where they just say "its Bears/Vikings, we're off this week"

Exhibit A: These are the fuckin FIRE plays and throws Trevor makes that get taken for granted - everyone already expects the world of him because of his college reputation, so when a less hyped QB does the same thing people notice more, but when he does it, "finally Trevor Lawrence does something". His mistakes are under the microscope, but the plays like this that prove why he's an EASY #1 overall QB that teams tanked for, are often not given proper credit for how good they are.

Five A+ downfield throws (not including the should've been touchdown to Ridley below). One thing Baldinger doesn't mention here is how plays 2, 3, and 5, he also looked off the coverage, pretending to watch a WR on the other side of the field, watch his head.

And play #4? Where his naked bootleg gets broken and leads him directly into a defender? Most QBs just accept the sack, get down and protect the ball right there. Some will try to juke him out and run. Very, very few can straight up make a U-turn, accelerate away from Collins (who was running full speed without stopping), and then thread the needle like that right by a defender's ear for a 20 yard completion.

 

Exhibit B: This is what I'm talking about in the red zone and why the red zone struggles aren't his fault. He also made THIS 30 yard throw, should've been a touchdown. It wasn't first down "let's catch them sleeping with a shot downfield", it was an expected call on 3rd & 15. Not only does Calvin blatantly drop it, but from the broadcast angle you can see him slow down and try to jump ball it, when actually Trevor led him perfectly and he could've just ran under it. It shouldn't have even been as hard of a catch as Ridley turned it into, he just tracked the ball wrong.

And what's crazy is, this is a 400 yard, 3 touchdown game for Lawrence if he catches that, unquestionably elite numbers to have in an important divisional game, but because of little shit like this people act like Trev's "just okay" and underperforming.

This is also an example of other miscues in the red zone that were more playcalling than Lawrence oriented. We lost 6 yards on a blown running play on first down, and Press chose to immediately run again on 2nd and 16 before the above play, which also contributed to us settling for a field goal there.

Even in spite of that brutal third down drop, here is how Trevor played on third down:

Everyone looking at his reduced touchdown numbers this year and saying he's been disappointing... everyone saying our 5 game winning streak was against bad teams and Trevor can't rise to the challenge of playoff opponents... Y'all can quit that. He's had two bad games out of 11, vs SF and vs KC (KC game had a lot of red zone drops and fumbles as well), we can certainly criticize his performance in those. Just like we can criticize Jared Goff and Dak Prescott when they have uncharacteristic bad games.

But outside of that he has been lights out, on the road, against tough winning teams, taking FULL advantage of the limited opportunities Press gave him to air it out until recently - and now that he's getting more opportunities to air it out, he carried our offense to two division victories. Look past basic stats like TDs and it's clear he's playing like a top 10 QB this year

I just got annoyed with him playing so well and being basically all of our offense in the game everyone said he had to prove himself and play as well as CJ Stroud, like he rose to the challenge and had his most productive game all year

and people still being like "yeah but" because we once again chose to call dumb plays and drop passes in the red zone

like nah fuck that Trevor had a statement game and that drop is the reason why we're not seeing a 400/3 statline. Could've even been 400/4 if Kirk didn't step out at the one yard line right before halftime, or if we called an RPO on that last 0:01 instead of predictably running and getting stuffed
