after rewatching the game. I disagree. Trevor Lawrence showed out as well. People just expect more from TLaw so it’s easier to focus on his mistakes.

But like, even the interception, which I thought was a bad throw in real time, actually happened because Engram got held back from finishing his route and it didn’t get called.

in addition, on *separate drives* Trevor had:

-a sure 25 yard touchdown dropped by Calvin Ridley, ball hit both his hands and wasn’t deflected by a defender… that drive ended in a field goal
-a CLUTCH, 40 yard pass to Kirk with 0:01 left at halftime, he barely stepped out at the one yardline, and instead of throwing it in or calling an RPO on that last second (or taking the field goal), we failed to run it up the middle. Got 0 points.
-Another nice red zone third down pass dropped by Kirk, would’ve got us within 10 yards, we instead settled for a field goal

This could have easily, easily been a 3-4 touchdown, 0 turnover game. It bounced the other way cause of the same red zone struggles we’ve had all season - and like usual, those red zone struggles were hardly even Trevor’s fault compared to the receivers just failing to execute. I don’t know how many red zone drops Trevor’s receiving corps has, but it’s a LOT (including two deflection-interceptions that doinked off Tank Bigsby’s hands, who we should never be throwing to again).

So instead we got 365 yards, 2 touchdowns, one INT - still a pretty darn good game, and he was ripping downfield throw after downfield throw to get those 365 yards. It’s a shame Kirk, Ridley, and Press Taylor left another 50ish yards and at least another two touchdowns; that Lawrence threw perfectly; on the field.

It’s a different game without the penalties, sure - but it’s also a different game if… Calvin Ridley and Christian Kirk were even as reliable as they come advertised lol

 

I 100% forgot about that until just this moment lol
