This isn't the first time I've heard this rumour, if that makes a difference.

it's been suggested a bunch of times over the years but I've never heard it "officially" being greenlit before. was just kind of a fan dream

The consensus last time it was rumoured was that it wouldn't make sense to run a spin-off featuring an old Doctor at the same time the main series is getting rebooted (though tbh that was more to do with the lightly rumoured Tennant and Tate miniseries taking attention off Ncuti). But now it should work. A limited series in the style of The Eighth Doctor Adventures (maybe even an adaptation of some of the more popular Big Finish storylines), film it next year and air it while Ncuti's next series is being filmed* as a way of tiding people over - that would make sense.

Side note but McGann is 63? Fucking hell.

*Series 1 and Series 2 - I hate the renumbering but w/e - are filmed / being filmed atm, before Ncuti gets an extended break to film other stuff.

yeah the main reasons I think it might work is that a) the Classic Doctors appearing in Power seems to have newer fans interested in seeing more of them, b) RTD is vocally a fan of the Cinematic Universe model with a bunch of spinoffs, and c) McGann seems to age one year for every 5 of our human years. there are some 8 audios I would absolutely love to see adapted

I stopped watching during Capaldi’s tenure, so I might pick back up during this new “season one”.

Trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I would absolutely love to see McGann with his own season. The audios have easily made him one of my favorite Doctors and I just know he'd kill it on screen

Possibly related but there's a rumour going round Doctor Who Twitter that the BBC have issued an edict restricting Big Finish on what incarnations of the Doctor they can use and what crossovers they are allowed to do. Which would fit if the plan is indeed for the BBC and Disney+ to collaborate on more official TV appearances for other incarnations, UNIT etc.

it sounds harsh but frankly a forcible restriction on crossovers would do BF a world of good at this point. the past few years have just been dartboard storytelling through and through, what if X met Y in that one setting. man the early audios were fucking great though, Eight and Sixie's especially

plus McGann just gave an interview saying he'd love to come back again. if they're not actually developing this then that's just cruel lmao

Yeah, the BBC is honestly doing Big Finish a favor at this point lol

I've been going through anniversary specials recently and started listening to Zagreus again. It has its issues, but I just can't imagine the Big Finish of today doing anything that wild and weird again. Maybe restricting crossovers will force them to get creative again lol

powering through my rewatch. it gets a bad rap and some is deserved but I really have a soft spot for s7. I remember Moffat saying he wanted each episode to feel like a blockbuster and when he pulls it off it's gangbusters. great effects across the season and episodes like Town Called Mercy, Angels Take Manhattan and Hide really do feel like mini movies

...no doubt the back half of it falls off a lot lol. but the shoddy episodes are still mostly entertaining which I can't say for the worst seasons of most other Doctors

Series 6 and 7 were the subject of criticism at the time for the production issues that necessitated them being split into two* (not helped by stories planted in the media, especially Private Eye, seemingly from someone with an axe to grind against Moffat). I think now that people are looking back at them as episodes without that taint. Don't know if I'd ever cite them as my favourite seasons, but there's a lot of good stuff in there (just also some utter crap).

*Like, I remember there being FURIOUS letters about the fact the 50th year only featured 8 "proper" episodes of Doctor Who. It was crazy.

100%, Moffat himself has been pretty open about how s7 was a nightmare to write with Karen and Arthur (and later Matt) leaving, the 50th having to be rewritten 4-5 times, Sherlock being written at the same time, the season split and other meddling from the Beeb such as not allowing Victorian Clara to be the companion

the fact that the season is still mostly good (and the 50th is phenomenal) despite all that is kind of a miracle. and then he stayed for 3 more seasons, a few longer than he planned because the show might've been taken off the air otherwise! say what you want about him but Moffat really loved this show completely

Do we know what time episodes will drop on Disney+ each Saturday?

I've seen people say it'll drop at the same time it premiers in the UK, but I'm not sure if there's been any official confirmation of that

it's funny I was so head over heels for s9 that I always felt 10 was a bit of a downgrade but watching it again now it's really hitting the spot. the more back to basics approach really works for the TARDIS team of 12-Bill-Nardole which is up there with the best in the whole show. even if there's no Heaven Sents in the mix the likes of Thin Ice, Oxygen and Extremis are some of the best one-offs in the show, outstanding character writing and dialogue

It will officially be on Disney+ at the same time that it airs in the UK. So 1:30p ET and 10:30a PT on Saturday.

only half a day left folks! exciting

sidebar I forgot how much better Woman Who Fell to Earth is than like... the entire rest of Chibnall's era lol. how did we go from this proactive, interesting Doctor debut to the passive/reactive 13 Jodie was saddled with the rest of her era. it's absolutely baffling

It really is like RTD never left, and your appreciation of The Star Beast is very much going to depend on if that's a deal-breaker or not.

I'm honestly surprised but I didn't really enjoy this at all, so many moments fell flat for me. I'm still excited for the next two which look promising

It was a mixed bag for me, but overall I was positive on it, which is basically how I felt about the RTD era.

Anyway, I’m always glad to have new Who.

really hope we get to see Wilf, the stuff with Donna's family was strong as always but it just wasn't the same without Russell's best character present. Tennant's acting in the scene where they mentioned him was really affecting too
