I’m also a huge 90s EPCOT nerd but figured this one wouldn’t resonate as much as Legend of Zelda

Legit sounds like something that could have been playing in the old Future World section

It’s definitely long, drifty, and not a concise listen at all, but in a way that’s cool bc it’s all improvised. You can feel the artistic discovery happening as it’s happening. It comes from a place of pure passion. There’s something special about that, but I definitely would also be interested in hearing an Andre ambient album that’s more “composed” / with preconceived songs, condensed track lengths, etc.

Love Takada and Mariah. Hiroshi Yoshimura is also another legend mentioned in the review, similar vibe.

more lesser-known masterpieces somewhat similar. def recommend parsing through each of these artists' material bc it's all great. these specific youtube accounts also post a lot of underrated gems and I'm still discovering stuff through their videos

(listened to this one on shrooms awhile back and it felt like an epiphany)

(the others in this series are also gorgeous)

Prati Bagnati Del Monte Analogo, by Raul Lovisoni / Francesco Messina

Oh this too. actually the 3k album specifically brought to mind for me Roedelius, at least in the textures.

    happily!

gorgeous flamenco/ambient jazz vibes. I'd kill to have this on vinyl one day.

I think there is some obvious Jon Hassell crossover with the 3k album and by extension the entire subgenre of fourth-world ambient, but Hassell is a great starting point.

can't forget ambient pioneer Terry Riley. pretty wild to think these came out in the 60's and 70's and still hit just as hard (/soft lol).

  17. They feel like the Andre 3000 version of a lot of ambient song titles I've seen

This didn’t have as much staying power as I’d hoped, but it’s still a good record and a cool gateway into ambient for peeps who aren’t as familiar. There were a ton of way better ambient albums released this year, but it’s great to know more is on the way from 3k, and it’s awesome he’s finally re-entered the music scene.

I’ve only played it in full like 4 or 5 times haha. You’re right though… hasn’t been long enough to make that final of a judgment. My thoughts admittedly haven’t changed much since my initial listen (that it’s a bit exploratory and takes its time finding its voice), but I still enjoy this album for what it is. I’m really looking forward to whatever comes next from him.
