I think I'm one of the few BR fans that really likes New America. Definitely better than No Substance in my opinion.

I love most of New America. The production isn’t my fave, but Todd Rundgren is a really cool pairing, and it’s cool to have some variety from a band with 30 records that sound the same

I think Rundgren did a great job of bringing out the hooks and choruses more. If anything, I think it gets a bad rep simply due to "I Love My Computer" which definitely sounds dated since its lyrical content focuses on the y2k "Computers are taking over!" type scolding. "Hopeless Housewife" and "Streetkid Named Desire" are fucking bangers and the rest of the album is just as melodic and catchy.

I like most of New America, but the ones I don’t like I REALLY don’t like. Let It Burn, Believe It, and There Will Be a Way are amongst their most forgettable songs for me.

I struggled to get into their most recent album...not sure what it was. A little bit of it was missing Brooks Wackerman's drumming...

Yeah, the drums on Age of Unreason feel mostly programmed, which is a shame because Jamie proved on the Decades live streams that he is an excellent drummer.

    Jamie is very good.

Brooks is up there with the best to ever do it. It’s an unfair comparison, but the right one.

Brooks and Jamie are the best drummers this band has had. Brooks is more technical and Jamie is an all around musician.

Brooks and Travis Barker are even very different. Brooks has incredible technique as a drummer and Travis is more flashy. For instance, Travis plays his drums flat and it looks like it hurts lol. He conditioned himself to play that way.

I think Brooks, for technique and variety, is the best drummer in the scene.

It could also be the way those albums were recorded but his stuff absolutely SLAMS through the speakers in a way most other drummers couldn’t pull off.

It’s amazing to me that drummers are such a great and valued part of the scene (Travis, Tre, Cyrus, Tony Thaxton, even LP from YC!) that all play their own way and it’s instantly recognizable. That doesn’t really happen in rock and roll aside from Dave.

Brooks is one of the best out of this scene as well. But I agree, he has a very distinct way of hitting drums and filling empty spaces!

I don't understand why The New America gets so much hate, especially when people constantly rank No Substance above it. No Substance sounded really tired/bland whereas The New America how Todd Rundgren producing really giving the songs more of a pop as well as varying the tempo to allow for a more dynamic album (although it DOES have "I Love My Computer" so...yeah).

No Substance has the best guitar tones in the world. I love the production of that album. I especially love the quirkiness of the whole album.

New America is a great summer album though.
