I haven't had a chance to listen to the album yet.

That was a trip to read. So glad everyone's liking this

 

Yeah I figured that was gonna be a divisive one. I didn't love it on my first listen. I'm kinda surprised that everyone else seems to, actually

 

I'm surprised people didn't lol. Not even the post-rock bit towards the end... the vocal section with the electric drums and everything is my favourite bit of the album.

Also, I haven't studied the lyrics, but it seemed to me that "Pass the Baby" is about a mum being held at gunpoint with a baby in her hand or something, and her partner is saying to hand the baby over to him. There's a line about "pass the baby, you wont get shot" or something I think. Again, haven't studied it but that's the impression I got. "That's our industry" could be that they both work in the drug or mafia business or something so its normal to be in these dangerous situations.

I'm probably waaaay off but like I said, I haven't read the lyrics or tried to catch them all in any active way.

 

Little bummed it leaked, they were so close!

I won't be listening. I should have my download code this time tomorrow. However, tracking for my vinyl hasn't updated since Tuesday... sigh.

 

TBH a leak a day before street date, from a retail copy, is the best possible scenario for a band in this day and age. Once those are out, or it's available in certain territories, it's inevitable.

 

I don't know if I'd call it a "leak" as such. Well... it was only 6 hours before release day in New Zealand. How far in advance does it have to be to call it a "leak"? I figure if it's close enough to the release date that people who pre-ordered it are receiving it in their mailbox then it's not so much a leak as it is just... an album being shared on the internet.

 

I can't really articulate my feelings about this album as a whole just yet. The last time I've been at a loss for words after a first listen was when Futures released, which became my favorite Jimmy album. My most common reaction to the album on first listen was something to the effect of, "Wait, what are you doing?" followed by, "Oh, alright then," followed by, "Oh. Wow."

 

Day before release doesn't count as a leak, haha.

 

Pol Roger / the album's ending is beyond perfection. Fuckin' Jim Adkins.

 

I'm going in blind except for Get Right a few times and Sure and Certain once.

Are you laughing cause you think it does (using sarcasm) or do you think it doesn't? It was 6 hours before release anyway, not like 24 hours.

 

I don't know. It's out before they wanted to release it. Wasn't sure what else to call it.

 

Eh, it's a semantic thing anyway. Regardless I think it hung on without leaking for about as long as one could reasonably hope for, to the point where if we were to draw a line between "albums that leaked" and "albums that didn't leak", I'd put this in the "didn't leak" category. Doesn't matter anyway.

 

Just finished Pass the Baby and I'm all over the place right now. This sort of diversity from a band making music for 23 years is almost unheard of. Holy fucking wow.

 

I think what's meant by "this didn't leak" is that it's out there due to people having it legitimately, not through some other channel

Well, this is just spectacular. There's not really a moment on here I don't like immediately. "The End Is Beautiful" hits especially hard, and "Integrity Blues" into "Pol Roger" is a perfect closing duo.

 

That bass in Pass the Baby though.

 

Pretty much the same for me. Won't be able to listen until this evening though. You heard it already?

I mean, if you are trying to get preorders to people on release day, someone is always going to get it the day before. I don't really think that qualifies as a leak.
