Offense analysis:

the story of our offense is our core skill talent is good, our QB is good/efficient and capable of becoming great, but we need more weapons to be an actual offensive team, and no one on our suspect offensive line really stands out.

Walker Little’s role in the offense continues to have me perplexed. He has showed every time he started at tackle that he can be very good and that he has excellent footwork, but we’ve never given him a consistent shot at it because of Cam, and we instead put him at LG where he is NOT equipped to deal with a Javon Hargrave or a Jeffrey Simmons.

Cam is what he is at this point and I don’t think he’s an elite enough run blocker to put up with how easy it is for speed rushers to exploit him.

Etienne might be a 94 or 95 during his peak, he’s still ascending. I think he’s one of the small handful of RBs worth a 3 or 4 year extension. Calvin Ridley could go either way, but signs point to him escalating to an 88 or even a 90 if we use him better. My personal hope and bias is that Trevor is capable of 92-95, he’s very smart and has elite fundamentals and arm talent, but I get why his pedestrian games 3 years into a career that already had a rough start have people thinking 87 is his ceiling

*mostly run defense and traits. I’d give him STR, POW, ACC in the mid 90s but then FMV, PMV, AWR, PRC, BSH etc need work.
**Josh Allen is the only Superstar X-Factor on the team.

Defensive analysis

As predicted by no one, the Jaguars defense is actually a lot more figured out than the Jags offense. In a year where Press Taylor has called plays scared in light of a surging third year RB and a QB who got his knee injured behind a very shaky OL, the defense is actually a bigger reason we’re 7-3.

We don’t have one of the best pressure fronts in the league, which is odd considering that’s Mike Caldwell’s style as a DC, but we’ve made the most of it with a scheme that prioritizes bulldozing the pocket, eating up space in run gaps, and Although our starting DL + Travon Walker sucks at generating pressure, we are using them where they are best - beating up opposing lineman. Only the 49ers have been able to bully us there.

This of course means letting Josh Allen + blitzing LBs, DBs, and schemed-in rotational guys, do most the heavy lifting in terms of pressure and sacks. But Allen gets pressure so damn often that we can get away with it on a down to down basis, and his skills dropping into coverage for a pass rusher make it a lot easier to send that extra guy from the backend. I stand by his 94 ranking, he is generally performing like a top pass rusher in the league. Foye and Rayshawn especially are good blitzers so Allen gets by with a little help from his friends.

our back 6 though? Fuggedabout it. We have great players at all those positions and I’m here for it. Especially as Cisco and Lloyd develop into more confident vocal leaders, and film rats who clearly show on the field that they’ve been studying their opponents well, this defense can only go up. I need Travon Walker to be more than just a bully/athlete to take us to the next level though, he has not matched his draft hype.

LS: Ross Matiscik (9999999)
KR: Jamal Agnew (91)

Special teams analysis

Hell yeah @ our special teams though. No notes. Our punt crew helps the team a LOT more than it hurts, McManus was an upgrade and is the best kicker we’ve had since Lambo, and right now we really miss Agnew’s home run potential even if some of his kick returns fart and only get 12 yards.

OVERALL JAGUARS RANKINGS:

OFF: 86
DEF: 92
S/T: 95
OVR: 90

Which makes sense - playoff team with special teams that helps us in close games, but, that offense has to do a lot better the second half of the season and have several guys progress (including Lawrence) for us to be a 92+ OVR Super Bowl contender
