  1. Thanksgiving was so fucking good lol. Man. I really don't like Roth most of the time, but even with his dialogue and some logistical question marks, the kills and jokes are so, so good. Highly recommend catching it with a crowd. Definitely going to be worthy of a yearly rewatch.

For a movie that was on paper, super silly and stupid, he really delivered with the kills. It’s everything you could want out of a not that serious slasher.

  3. Thanksgiving ruuuled

  4. Forgot to report that When Evil Lurks kicked ass too! A fresh take on a well-trodden subgenre that escapes its bleakness with excellent writing and performances. So gross, too. One of the best of the year.

Terrifier 2 is... still a lot for me, lol

In no particular order, my main squeezes of 2023 were:

    Thanksgiving
    Saw X
    Totally Killer
    No One Will Save You
    Cobweb
    Run Rabbit Run
    Renfield
    Infinity Pool
    Talk To Me

    Honorable mention:
Evil Dead Rise... It just didn't hit the highs of the 2013 one. I liked it, but I was still a bit disappointed.

I don’t think I posted it here, but we watched horror comedy Extra Ordinary last week and really liked it, mainly watched for Claudia O’Doherty but it’s a really well made film with great jokes and some well executed horror elements. It’s streaming on something but I forget what.

Talk to me more about Run Rabbit Run. I've been on the fence a few times, almost putting it on, but never pulled the trigger.

  17. It's tough to make distinctions between years and genres. Letterboxd lists Talk to Me as 2022, but that's likely for the same reason I haven't seen Late Night with the Devil yet - wide release will be later. I'm also not including Beau because I think it's a comedy, but it's my favorite film of the year.

  18. Still gotta rewatch Scream 6, I enjoyed that and Evil Dead Rise but both have sunk a little bit amongst all the good shit we got this year.

  19. Talk To Me premiered at Sundance in 2022, but didn't get a wide release until early 2023.

Man, idk what it is but nothing really did it for me this year outside a few films. for the record I haven’t watched When Evil Lurks or Run Rabbit Run.

    1. Thanksgiving
    2. Infinity Pool
    3. Saw X
    4. Totally Killer
    5. Talk to me
    6. Evil Dead Rise
    7. Scream 6
    8. Renfield
    9. Cobweb
    10. Haunted Mansion

looking back, there were some good ones but getting X, Terrifier 2, Barbarian, Speak No Evil, Pearl, The Watcher made 2022 feel like a monumental year for horror. Nothing this year impacted me like any of those. Looking forward to hopefully changing that with When Evil Lurks
