Just completed the first case in Frog Detective. It’s a cute detective game but the drawn out dialogue is a bit too much. (Pretty much why I don’t play JRPGS)

Player's Log: Trails To Azure

Solved my problem. The trainer's speed hack function that I used to slow down the Horror Coaster also works in reverse, so I just sped the game up to max speed and let it run overnight.

100% achievement completion.

Today, I begin Cold Steel.

 

I bought this today for 20 bucks (complete edition)

Player's Log: Trails Of Cold Steel.

So because Zero and Azure were ported by NISA after Cold Steel was ported by XSeed, there are a couple of QOL issues I'm encountering right off the bat.

Fortunately, one of them, the ability to have control of my mouse while playing the game, I was able to patch in thanks to a fortunate soul on the interweb who heard people's plight and answered the call.

Unfortunately, the other one, auto advancing text, seems to have no solution. The interweb has failed me. Time to prepare myself for a future of constantly hitting the A button. Sigh.

 

Player's Log: Trails Of Cold Steel.

I finished the prologue, and here are my random thoughts so far.

- It's cool seeing the series jump to full 3D, although it's definitely got some of that jank that older 3D RPGs had through their growing pains, and I do miss the prettier design of the 2D games. I imagine that will improve as I continue through the series.

- I have a feeling the combat is going to get super complicated real quickly. The whole link thing hasn't been properly introduced yet and I'm worried about having to keep track of that, as it seems to feed into the whole bonding thing? I'm trusting the guide I'm following to not steer me wrong on this.

- I do like that their mouths move when they're speaking, as it helps me in regards to that whole pressing A to continue dialogue issue I mentioned above. One of the reasons I want auto-advance is because I use the Japanese voice acting and I don't always know when their lines end, so seeing the mouth motions helps me with that.

- Looking ahead on the guide, I can see that each Chapter is broken up into days just like in the Crossbell games, but some days appear on rails for plot purposes and others are clearly marked as "Free Days", which I find very interesting and somewhat reminiscent of Danganronpa's "Free Time". I'm curious to know if it works in a similar way.

- Just as I felt about Estelle's party going into the Crossbell games, now that I feel totally removed from Crossbell, I'm missing that crew. I'm sure that will pass as I get to know Rean and his classmates, but I'm anxiously awaiting the time when all of these disparate groups join forces. I know that's relatively far off.

- After this and Cold Steel 2, I plan to not jump into Cold Steel 3 immediately, as I know there's an anime, Northern War, that takes place between the two and fills in events, so I'll absolutely be watching that when the time comes.

Okay, so now I'm in one of the free time days and it is pretty much like Danganronpa in the sense that this appears to be where all the quests and bonding activities go to roost. And like with Danganronpa, I have limited bonding points to spend to view bonding activities.

And because fuck that, the trainer I'm using allows me to use as many bonding points as I want, because I don't intend to miss a single goddamn thing.

Also on a similar note, apparently you have limited opportunities to fish at each fishing location? Fuck that too, trainer gives me infinite fishing attempts, so I'm gonna fish as much as I want, when I want, thank you.

Look, I wouldn't have to break the game like this if the developers didn't make things so difficult.

And speaking of decisions the developers made that I don't like, apparently they decided Rean should have no voiced dialogue after the prologue, but every other character does, so it creates this weird sensation, and I'm not vibing with it.

So I made the decision to go without voices in this game. It's too weird otherwise and I'm already annoyed by the lack of auto-advancing dialogue.

Now that I've smoothed out all those quibbles, I'm really getting into the swing of this. Enjoying how big the campus is and how much it reminds me of Crossbell from that perspective.

I'm excited to keep playing!

 

Took a slight detour from Alan Wake 1 to play through OneShot, which was a nice little Undertale-like with some interesting mechanics. With that done, I just wrapped episode 1 of Alan Wake and I keep telling myself I shouldn't care about looking for collectibles as I scour every inch of every area for them.

 

I started that game once and never finished it, and I really should at some point, but one thing about it that I really love is how it breaks the fourth wall. If you know, you know, and you should know.

Finished the second case in Frog Detective. It’s growing on me with the awkward humor but it’s still a little long in the tooth. I do like the developer cutting in at times and changing it up. One more case to go!

 

I think I knocked out the basic ending and the true ending in around 5 hours, so it's a pretty quick playthrough. Definitely worth the time!
