running through the discog a bit today and it almost sounds like Overseas has been remixed? the lead guitar part in the intro is buried and there’s a weird chorusy backing vocal in the first verse that were never there before lol

he took a break from touring to deal with his mental health but haven't heard anything since

 

Yeah it’s not clear what’s going on but maybe it’s not clear to Jason or Jimbo either. I’ll miss him if he’s gone for good obviously. But I’d have to imagine (even setting aside other mental health stuff) that going from playing shows to 200 people and probably still having a day job circa 2013-14 to playing in front of thousands of people 20 nights a month 10-11 months of the year could take a toll on anyone. Jason tours pretty incessantly, hitting pretty much every major market every other year, plus Overseas (heh) tours, festivals in the summer, and is always cycling through secondary and tertiary markets in the south/appalachia/midwest in between. The guy did a tour this January that was all tinyass cities for a touring artist in IN/MI/KY. Jason’s a real sicko and loves it (and grew up doing 300 shows a year in DBT) plus that’s how he pays his employees, but I wouldn’t want to be on that schedule lol and I hate my current day job. Totally can see how eventually the shitty parts would outweigh the cool parts.

tl;dr I’m tired and maybe Jimbo is too lol

 

Oh: and I can see how it could feel weird and kinda crummy to not have your bassist (I think their name is Anna right?) in promo shots when they’re grinding it out on the road with you, even if it’s in a “touring only” capacity

This is my favorite record of his, I’m fully there

 

I listened to it yesterday for the first time in a bit, and I dunno, this one never fully clicked into all-timer status for me like a few of his others. Really enjoyed my listen, but I feel like I get emotionally bowled over by Reunions and Southeastern whenever I listen to them, and this one I’m standing at a little more of a distance. Probably still a solid number 3.
