    Well, that’s that.

Bring on Spirit and the new solo era.

The pivot in the replies from OMG New Album to OMG New Greatest Hits without one iota of change in enthusiasm is wild.

There's a limited edition 4LP version that's not available for sale yet on their store. I wonder what's on that one...nevermind it's the same release, just spread out across 4 records.

I legitimately don't get greatest hits cds anymore.

You can just create a playlist on Spotify or Apple or whatever

But if you've never heard the band before, how do you know what tracks to put on your playlist?

  9. SpeckledSouls

    Trusted

No, I meant the band could do just that

I'm trying to imagine a realistic scenario in which someone would purchase a greatest hits album from an artist they've never heard before and I need help

Is that not the whole driving point of greatest hits albums?

I promise you not everyone does discography runs.

I get what you're saying, and I honestly don't know if physical versions of hits albums are a necessity in the streaming age.

It could be oldthink that just hasn't gone away yet. The idea of having a product to sell to go with a tour.

Sure but like, cycle through the top songs on spotify? Isn't that basically the greatest hits right there for new listeners?

Maybe the vinyls sell really well too. People love collecting stuff.

    Fight the long defeat.

Big physical media guy here! I still thrift CDs and rip to my phone, and I've picked up quite a few greatest hits albums, especially for prominent artists I've never given the time of day.

Feels like a nice way to grow my library without trying to evaluate which full albums are worth my time, at least not until I know better if I like their style. I know I'm a dinosaur for doing it, but I prefer to own tangible copies of the art I appreciate, and it's hard to beat $0.99 to try out a new artist.

The only think that makes less sense than a Hits album is ANOTHER hits album with mostly the same songs as the first incarnation. WHY DOES THIS EXIST

greatest hits makes sense for artists with huge catalogs that you're trying to get into, you can figure out what songs you like best and then listen to those albums

Real ones do whole discography or nothing. No exceptions.
