Of all the bullshit that they do, charging more for 4K is one of the most logical things. At least you're paying for an actual user benefit, and there are actual increased hosting/infrastructure costs associated with the higher quality.

 

Yeah, but get this

They don't improve anything, they constantly remove content, they raise prices, they bring back ads, they remove the number of devices that can be used, they cancel shows, and much much more.

The one thing they can do with all their price changes is 4k.

 

For anyone that got the email from Max, there's a promo code in there to buy 1 year of the 4K plan for $160, which comes out to a little over $13/month. Hate how greedy these companies are, but Max has become my favorite streaming service as of late so I'll take what I can get.

 

Yes, true, he was a white guy. But something interesting is that he was a prisoner of war in Japan during WW2 and became completely enamored with Asian history and culture during his time there. Along with Shogun, the dude wrote six massive tomes of 17th century Asian historical fiction in the 70’s. Personally I wouldn’t call that appropriation but I get the hesitancy. I actually haven’t read him yet so I can’t comment on the specifics, but Shogun is on my shelf and I’ve only heard good things.

 

HBO decided that when tens of millions of people couldn't see anything during the Battle of Winterfell, that should just be the norm.

 

Like someone else mentioned yes the author is a white guy, but there is the context that he was a British prisoner of war of the Japanese in Singapore in WW2. Because of that experience all of his books are about the clashing of Eastern and Western cultures in different periods of history. Because of his experience as a POW of the Japanese he became obsessed with how east and west intersect. It isn't just like a white dude who writes about a culture they have no experience with because of no reason. Eventhough Shogun is historical fiction, it was an incredibly personal story for James Clavell.

 

Now that Paramount has got the 12:30 CBS spot figured out, when do you think we're getting an announcement of what their permanent plan is for the Daily Show?

Started rewatching Invincible season 1 last night so I could get reminded since it's been about ninety seven years since the first season. The ending of that first episode is still so damn surprising and great.

yeah just finished it last night, it takes a bit of a dip in episodes 6/7 but I liked the ending and enjoyed it overall.

 

I’m halfway through season one of Joe Pera Talks With You. I read a review and they described it as Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood for adults and it’s a perfect description. Very cozy.

Paramount+'s newest western series Lawman: Bass Reeves starring David Oyelowo premieres today.

Taylor Sheridan is just executive producing, not showrunning this one. I guess it's planned to be an anthology series with each season being about a different lawman in western history.
