I read the Sword of Truth books. Fun for what they were at that time for me, but you're not really missing out on anything if you skip them.

As for a series I won't ever read... good question. Definitely the Xanth books, that's an easy one. I also doubt I'll ever read Song of Achilles/Circe. Just something about it doesn't appeal to me at all—though Greek lit is a personal favorite usually.

    I'll have to keep pondering.

Song of Achilles and Circe fucking rule though. Especially SOA. If you like the Iliad and the Odyssey I can't think of a reason not to check them out.

Yeah I hear you. I dunno, just something about the premise in general and the vibe around them has turned me off reading them, haha. I'll probably be convinced at some point, because they seem like I should love them.

Ryan Cahill, Phillip Quaintrell and Michael R Miller are all doing Day of the Dragon where their boxes are 99p/99c each for today only (10th October)
If you're looking to start any of these then now is a good time! I've picked up a few already.

A few others have read these and enjoyed them. I've not read Quaintrell or Miller but they seem to get a lot of praise in the indie fantasy community.

Haha a few others read and enjoyed them but also that sando backlog needs reading!

    That's a lot of pressure....

Runelords continues to be utterly spectacular. No more fucking around, I'm not starting another series until I finish it.

Absolutely phenomenal and tragically underread. I’ve talked about the series periodically throughout the thread, but Dave Wolverton (Farland) had a profound influence on the genre and was an absolute master of the craft - and an absolutely lovely guy. I was fortunate enough to know him personally, though it’s not like we were super close, and he was a class act. Vivatoto might have read more of the Runelords series than me at this point, but I can vouch for them as well.

I'm constantly in awe of how good it is, and how the story continues to outdue itself over and over. Really everything about it feels pitch perfect, the fighting is big a bloody, the politics are dense and backstabby, the lore is original and digestible. That's the main thing, he's so fucking easy to read, but you don't lose anything with the accessibility either. It's a best of both worlds, perfect storm type of series.

And there's one character in particular, Raj Ahten, who is like the most I've loved a character since Rake.

Just finished the Night's Dawn trilogy from Peter F. Hamilton. I continue to be impressed with the scope of his stories. Yes, it's A LOT, but somehow he writes a cohesive story around it and leaves very few, if any, stones unturned. Highly recommend.

Haha. No time like the present! ... still waiting for the sequel to Chainbreaker btw.

Yeah, I'm doing kind of a hybrid thing. Main goal is to hit 50k, primarily focusing on a new short story and a new novel (both Garden Knight), but also allowing myself to count words written on some ongoing projects (two novels and a short story).

Should end up the month with the short story done, more than half the novel done, and then some progress on the rest of them.

Good start to the month! Love your map too.

You may be waiting a very long time. It’s been abandoned because I’ve kinda quit writing fiction for the last four-ish years. I grew to hate most of my WIPs and knew I needed a long break. And I’m not sure if I’m ever returning at this point… :/

kinda using nano to see what I just spit out on the page. should maybe aim for 30 poems or something since my next collection is going horribly slow

were you ever gonna send me garden knight 1.5 and 2 for beta edits?

    good luck!

Sad about this part, but I know how it goes. FWIW I have had scenes and imagery from that book pop into my head probably every couple weeks since I read it. I really enjoyed it

Excited about this though, your first collection was A+

Oh yeah, I should do that haha - if you're still offering. I think I delayed because I was waiting to properly go through the feedback you gave for .5 and 1, which I finally did and got a lot out of, by the way. For real planning on releasing stuff next year, so yeah, I'll have to send those others over.

    And thanks, same!
