My point is there wasn’t a ton of headway made so it’s a good time to start over.

There's nothing less appealing to me than just starting over with new versions of the old Avengers. I honestly don't see anything positive about rebooting things.

A big issue for me rn is not having a 'core' group of like 5 or 6 heroes to focus on or rally around. Everything has felt so scattered since the end of the og run. The shows also dont really add anything great outside of a couple highlights (Loki and Wandavision for me) and I thinks theres just too much content in general. I've personally skipped 3 of the shows because I just cant be bothered to keep up with it all. Step back and focus on just making solid movies imo.

Yeah the MCU book that came out recently revealed that Black Panther, Spider-Man, and Captain Marvel were supposed to be the new big 3 for Marvel after Endgame. So it wasn’t just the passing of Boseman but the shitty reaction Brie Larson got thanks to some vocal incels.

No mention of Doctor strange? I’m surprised he wouldn’t be with Black Panther, Spider-Man, and Captain Marvel.

I haven’t actually gotten around to reading the whole book, so my knowledge is mostly from excerpts, but I don’t believe Strange was included as being a new lead for the MCU

Also just to clear up the reboot talk. It’s been all but confirmed that a soft reboot is coming after Secret Wars. What that entails, I have no idea, but I would not expect anything close to a hard reboot

As much as I didn’t care for Eternals, it would suck to sit through what felt like a five hour movie and it be all for naught.

But seriously, it would be disappointing to lose Shang Chi, Kate Bishop and She Hulk. Enjoyed those. And I really hate them going back to the reference well because they had so many unforced errors. Just give us F4, X-Men and Blade and we’ll be back on track.

Fundamentally I think the fact that everyone has a different takeaway from the Variety article is the biggest indicator of "what's wrong" with Marvel - there is no singular big thing but a lot of smaller things that add up to... the movies feel skippable when they used to be big events, and Marvel no longer represents a "seal of quality"* that guarantees you'll have a good time.

*I am not suggesting that Marvel movies as a whole were ever 5-star cinematic masterpieces, but part of the appeal was that if you went to see the new MCU film you knew you were at worst getting a decent film with some action and quips. After a few high-profile flops, that's not the case any more.

It’s definitely a Disney+ problem across the board with both this and Star Wars.

It truly sucks that there’s just no anticipation for anything because A) There’s always a steady stream of installments instead of one or two a year or biannually. B) That constant stream has sacrificed any quality control and there’s been a lot of duds. Plus, people are way less invested in keeping up with 4-5-6 shows a year than a couple 2+ hour movies.

I don't really need to reiterate how much I disagree with this take as me still having a good time at every film is subjective and I recognize that.

But even the biggest "flop" in these phases still made money hand over fist and placed in the top 10 moneymakers of the year, so it really weirds me out how much this narrative still gets pushed.

Quantumania didn’t break even while it was in theaters and I don’t think it did afterwards either

Quantumania made 426 million off a budget of 200 million. I did read that it needed to make 600 million, which if true I think is a really dumb decision to put that much weight on Ant-Man 3, a generally lower-grossing franchise.

That said, it's still the seventh highest-grossing film domestically this year. Probably says more about the film industry in general than it does about Marvel or Ant-Man.

New “scoop” from MTTSH that involves the endgame surrounding Loki, SW, etc.

Loki will take control of the TVA and be the one to assemble the multiverse Avengers full of the “prime” versions of the characters (Jackman’s Wolverine, Reynolds’ Deadpool, Holland’s Spider-Man, etc.) and lead them into battle against Kang. Once Secret Wars is over, the idea for Hiddleston’s exit is that Loki will sit down as He Who Remains to preserve the future of the multiverse..but with more freedom than before.

I can see it happening mostly because a Loki variant did the same thing he was called Avenger Prime and gathered strong heroes from the multiverse in the comics.

Strange has never been a lead Avenger. He does his own thing and teams up when absolutely necessary. I can see why he wasn’t considered.

Well a lot of leakers are saying Tobey’s Spider-Man and Jackman’s Wolverine will be the leads of Secret Wars and that “leak” has been consistent for quite some time and was stated once again today. Which seems to contradict Holland being the prime Spider-Man because then why would Tobey be the lead?

I really think they should have just recast T’Challa. I get it, Boseman was iconic. But it’s not like he left over a dispute or they didn’t want to pay him or he was over the role. It was tragic. And I think the audience could handle a recast. And then you’d still have Black Panther be in your top 3 heroes. Then you had Letitia Wright come in and put off a large amount of the audience with her Covid takes. And there wasn’t enough there for her to pull the weight of Black Panther especially when we were just barely getting to know who Black Panther is. Then factor in all the stupid opinions because she’s a woman, the deck is just stacked against the character.

I agree T’Challa should have been recast. There’s a huge void without that character.
