It’s been 7 years and I still can’t listen to all of Tidal Wave. That song Holy Water is like nails on a chalk board to me. Call Come Running was a good catchy single though.

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

Yeah, I remember seeing them play Holy Water live before the album came out and being psyched about it. Then the album version came out and it was in a higher key and the mix on Adam’s vocals was harsh and his high notes sounded like shit. Could’ve been a good song, but alas.

It's so weird cuz I feel like Tidal Wave was mostly positively received here when it came out?

Also the only thing this album and Tidal Wave have in common are that they're albums by the same band.

Still, even though I am enjoying this a good bit, Tidal Wave is clearly the better album.

Apologies if this has already been said, but who is the voicemail to at the end of the album?

Got my vinyl today and finally digging into this after the massive amount of new music to digest over the past few weeks. Loving it after the first few spins.

I’ve cooled on tidal wave a bit but I think it’s top tracks/moments are as good as anything in the band’s discog. On top of that, and I’ve said it before, this album def doesn’t exist without the last 2. HI was such a leap in Adam’s songwriting that’s continued here, and a lot of the vocal melodies and more laid back vibes feel developed from TW. where 152 is really different to me is mostly in how they experiment a bit more instrumentally. I don’t think one necessarily has to like the last 2 to like this (though it does surprise me), but I think the development is clearly there.

for fun, track by track thoughts:
Not a clean fit but amphetamine smiles could’ve been on TW, perhaps a b side
stood a chance and s’old make a good punchy, fun song duo, as if the latter is the former’s older brother. Could add TW there but I don’t like that song much, that’s the one I would agree was clearly aiming for a goal it couldn’t really hit.
The One probably could’ve appeared on s/t. Intro has that thinner sound a lot of that album has, even if it’s much better lyrically than most of that record
The bridge on keep going could’ve been lifted right off louder now
I like ITOOWKY a lot, but I tend to care the least for the band’s token slower/soft rock songs
There might not be a song in their discog that could’ve slid into another record as well as lightbringer could’ve slid into tidal wave.

  12. “Lightbringer” would stick out like a sore thumb if only because they fixed his vocals to be listenable. That one simple trick helps a lot!

idk, I feel like Adam is throwing his voice around in 152 as much as he ever has (which also feels like a continuation of TW). As I said in another post, I think his vocal production on this album sounds more “live,” so Im surprised how many people love it here. Idk much about production, I’ve never had an issue with how he sounds on record, but that’s the impression I got.

Last three songs on this are really good. Album is continuing to grow on me, I’m really enjoying it. I’m also probably in the camp of this feeling like new territory for them. S’old is the only one that feels like a quintessential TBS song and even that has some new elements. It’s nothing ground breaking but the combo of it all feels fresh for them.

Yeah I'll be honest, Adam's vocals continue to be the main thing holding me back from truly loving TBS these days, and again, maybe that's why it was reminding me of TW because his vocal delivery is so similar to that album.

My fiance says this album is autotuned to hell. I don't hear that. To me, I WISH that were the case haha. He needs all the help he can get.

yea this album to me sounds like they said “*sigh*, ok Adam everyone knows how you sound live, just go nuts.”

Yea there’s some parts that sound really tuned. It’s probably for the best tho lol

And I feel like a dick saying it because I'm a singer myself who has fucked up his voice through poor technique and bad lifestyle choices, but I mean, it's noticeable

  19. They are not live. It’s a night and day difference between what the two producers and mixers did.

  20. Your fiancé is right. It’s very clearly massively auto tuned. (That’s a good thing.)

I can hear some similarities of the past two
Albums, but only in passing. Like the guitar intro/tones on All The Way remind me of some of the sounds here. I got listen to the album again but there was another moment in one of the songs when I was like oh yeah that reminds me of ___. Can’t remember what it is though

Happiness Is… is a very good album.

Tidal Wave is a very good album.

152 is a very good album.

This is a great three album run for them.

I rest my case, Your Honor.
