Good guy, but a bad dude

I definitely think there’s some weird lyrics in here. Not sure how, had to been comes to mind immediately. But I also feel like Adam is killing it on the vocal melodies in general. M

They don’t say explicitly in the liner notes what the split is, but I think John writes a fair amount of the lyrics still, and I wonder how he decides which to keep for his own solo things and which to use for TBS and also how they go about merging his and Adam’s.

So many of my favorite parts are how Adam sings/annunciates certain lyrics (“son of a bitch,” first verse in “I Am The Only One…,” “goddamned,” etc etc).

    Better than you, sorry

I don’t know about more recent tbs but old tbs had great emo dramatic lyrics. Then they became less emo still dramatic which. was. great.

    Case in point (love?)

“She says live up to your first impression
Well my best side was your worst invention
Why can't you live without the attention
Why can’t you love without the attention
    WHY CAN’T YOU LIVE
    WHY CAN’T YOU LIVE
WHY CAN’T YOU LIVE WITHOUT LOVE WITHOUT?!”

Yeah, I could hear you all the way from the back of the house
What you said you knew nothing about
You should have been ashamed to be so proud
I've been broken down in so many ways
Sick of myself, too scared to change
I've been waiting for the day to come
When all that's left is moving on

You're a voice I needed out of my head
White cross stuck in the sand
    And now that you're gone
    I'm glad you're gone
You're a voice I needed out of my head
Talking all the time, leaving so much left unsaid
    I'm glad you're gone

Never understood the Miami hate, that song rules! Also this new album rules! I generally try to avoid talking about production because I don’t have a clue what I am talking about, but I just love the way this album sounds! Really hope they keep on this trajectory for a bit

“My Blue Heaven” is probably the closest they ever captured that TAYF emotion for me.

Louder Now is such a great album. I'm always hoping for a return back to that sound.

Tried again with this one and it sadly felt even more empty than last time. It seems (to me) that it doesn't have that element that gave this band a personality. And no, it's not the duel vocals. It's something else I can't put my finger on. Ah well. Glad people are enjoying it but I'm going to take it as a sign I must have outgrown the current iteration of this band. It's interesting that their older stuff has somehow managed to stay with me, but I'll always have it for nostalgia sake.

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

It took me a while to come around on Miami because of how atrocious the opening drums and muted guitar strums sound, but that’s just my love-hate relationship with Eric Valentine’s production talking, because that song does rule. Everything from the solo to the very end is some of the best music they’ve ever made, and the lyrics aren’t too shabby either.

Brooklyn & Sleep ought to have been included on the album. Sleep replaces Up Against, and Brooklyn goes in between Divine Intervention and Miami, and you have yourself a flawless album.

Such great verses, amazing v2 pre chorus, and love the bridge. But I'm not sure why, the chorus has always been weak to me. Think it's the weird triplet-like guitar.
