Minnesota also has a good DL. Flores calls one of the most aggressive defenses if not the most aggressive. Hunter/Young have very similar run defense stats except for depth of tackle, which Young is better at. In True Pass Rush sets Hunter has fewer pressures than Travon and an equal amount of sacks and is below Young, Uche, and 30 others in efficiency

 

Young is only moving if he's getting a contract per insiders

 

Yet he is still 11th in pressures and 1st in sacks. At some point is it not valuable that he gets a lot of production from non- True Pass Rush sets? Cause that means he’s making splash plays in more situations than just that third down when you know the opponent is gonna pass

if his sack and pressure totals were kinda flukey and not typical for him maybe I wouldn’t be weighing them as much but Hunter has been good at getting sacks his whole career, it’s not a contextual coincidence

aggressive defense may also mean, “the DL have to be more serious about their run gaps because Flores blitzes a lot so the LBs aren’t there for clean up tackles”

 

Like these are the limitations to some of these more granular statistics / metrics, you can end up pigeonholing the context into one that fits the framework of that stat instead of realizing there’s other ways to be effective that are not described by things like, efficiency in true pass rush sets

That's not what a true pass rush set is. A true pass rush set eliminates botched snaps, rollouts, screens, trick plays, plays with fewer than 3 rushers, and theres a time range as well. I think it's like sub 2 seconds and post 5 seconds

That’s fair. I’m just looking at the actual like, scale, of being 46th in win rate and 38th in efficiency but still being one of the top performers in actual production. I’m naturally wired to question why that is because something doesn’t add up. I think being high in those categories can mean a guy who’s not getting sacks is still doing a good job - but I’m not so sure it works the other way, because those stats don’t convince me that Hunter isn’t good. He’s one of the most productive edges in the NFL and always has been, even though dating back to 2021 and 2020 I’m seeing pressure rates of like 14-15%, nowhere near the usual league leaders at 18-21%

 

I'm not saying he isn't good I'm just saying he hasn't been as good as Young and not worth the price difference of Uche.
