Might be a naive question, but should I care about this whole scandal? (no horse in this race one way or other and definitely not trying to condone cheating.) I guess my issue is that the school essentially watched and figured out signs that anyone at the game could see publicly and determined their meaning and not like broke into someone's office and stole a sign sheet that explained what each play equated to.

Just curious is all since I've seen some shrugging elsewhere over it (possibly due to how lame and shitty NCAA is about handing out punishments, etc.).

 

the difference is most teams do it during the game itself, not in advance

 

I personally think it's not that big of a deal - like a tweet I shared awhile ago said, you're playing stadiums with 100k people that's televised to millions, you don't have the right to privacy, change your signs, etc

but I'm also not a fan of a team that Michigan's beaten the last few years, or a fan of any specific team at all, so doesn't affect me

 

Do teams make much effort to change their signals between games/seasons?

Just do what the NFL does and have communication equipment in the QB's helmet to fix

 

I think I saw an explanation for why colleges don't do that (either here or on twitter) but can't remember the reasoning

 

i saw some complaining that it impacts the warranties on the helmets or some such shit, which like they're making money hand over fist, so fuck off.

 

whatever happened with the assistant that got fired this summer? all i saw was "computer crimes?" although if it's a "crime" they might not be going into specifics for legal reasons.
