thought I'd absolutely hate Yellowstone, but its pretty good

this most recent season though stinks

 

Hunter is still the league leader in sacks. 28 isn’t that old in pass rusher years, lots of pass rushers with that kind of special talent stay good past 30. I think we’d get 3-4 years of him in his prime before he declined. That’s worth a first to me.

 

He's 29 in like 10 hours and Chase is younger, cheaper maybe, and actually better this year

A couple years ago, Hunter became the youngest player to reach 50 sacks. I’d love to have him right now when he’s actually peaking and probably gonna break his career best sack total

 

He's got 3 more sacks (4th vs. 1st) but 10 fewer pressures (11th vs. 4th) and a lower win rate (8th vs. 46th) and efficiency (11th vs. 38th).

I'm not paying a 1st for a rental either, that's bad resource allocation

 

I totally forgot Uche had a 12 sack season last year and led the league in efficiency. Yeah I'll take that lol

 

I’m seeing the numbers for pass rush win rate, which have always been sorta average for Hunter compared to other great pass rushers. And honestly the conclusion I am drawing is he’s a really good finisher.

Which, if anything, that’s what the Jags need - Allen is top 5 in pressures and QB hits and has always performed in that category, Walker wreaks a lot of havoc and bulldozes guys out of the way, but we usually underperform in actual sack numbers.

To be 1st in sacks, 11th in pressures but 46th in win rate means that even though he’s not constantly beating his man, when he does he very consistently converts it into a sack and wins the tackle in pursuit. And it clearly doesn’t matter that much he’s not beating his man every play if he still ends up with similar production in terms of how much he’s affecting the quarterback.

I also feel like the flaw in “pass rush win rate” and “efficiency” is it doesn’t account for scheme. For all we know - and it would make sense, schematically - Hunter has a lot more responsibility against the run that Chase does and can’t just attack downhill every pass play. If true, (I don’t know for sure without watching some film, but it’s something to consider) then that alone could create a barrier to Hunter having the same win-rate and pass rush efficiency cause he’s not always getting to focus on having a fast first step, and has to play contain & gap discipline more often, which creates a natural slight hesitation when the defense’s gameplan is trying to stop the run.

 

Another thing, all four of Washington’s linemen are good, so we can’t say Hunter has more help pushing the pocket and that’s why he has more sacks either

 

This risk is the same with both Young and Hunter, both are due contracts this offseason. In both cases we’d be betting they wanna stay because we’re a good team with a good culture, in a state with no state income taxes lol

 

my Saturday hot take is that Yellowstone and Succession are basically the same show so I don’t really get liking one and hating the other

leaving quality aside, the plots could not be more different? unless you think every show with a dad and adult kids is the same lol
