What the actual fuck is happening. haha Like, leaks hurt bands, sales, and the entire music industry. It takes little research to figure that out even. And saying it doesn't hurt anything is just living in denial.

 

In JEW news, I've finished my path from the past few months of introducing myself to all of JEW's albums (starting with Clarity). I've now head every album! I listened to Damage for the first time yesterday and immediately listened again; I'm pretty obsessed. Such a great album.

Factually great? Subjectively great? Will it be my favorite JEW album, even if I know JEW has better albums--if that's even possible??!?!

WHO KNOWS??!?!?!

Actually, in all fairness, I think a compelling argument can be made against this in some cases, but the bottom line is that there are way too many variables to make a broad statement on the matter. A little googling will turn up some interesting studies though. Just saying. In the case of JEW, I don't see any good coming from a leak at this point, but I have no research/data to back that up.

not a lot of people watch youtube interviews. its pretty much extremely small publications that even bother with them, for the most part, thats why they arent getting viewed. has little to do with the band. their official youtube has the new singles up and they have anywhere from 50k to 400k views. they arent at the peak of their popularity but they arent the smallest band in the world. they're selling out or coming close to selling out mid size venues across the country. they're doing fine for a band on their what, 9th record?

 

why dont you believe evidence?

 

@Sophos, realy popular band get like 1 millions views+ easy on their singles

they couldnt manage to hit 1 million with any songs off of this last album yet
even with a top song like destination addicted

i wrote a paper on this once and looked at some of those studies. theres an interesting case to be made that people who download leaks spend more money in the industry, but this was 2011 when i wrote a paper on the effects of the internet on the industry. i would venture to say thats not so much the case now with streaming being a quick and easy way to hear stuff for cheap.

Whoa whoa. I'm not saying that leaks help all bands. I'm just saying that there are exceptions that provide for interesting arguments if you so choose. I haven't seen you back up your opinion with any supporting evidence, by the way.

 

the industry as a whole is not the same as individual bands. individual bands are hurt by their albums leaking.
