leaks hurt sales. if it leaked today? okay sure it wouldn't matter. but i suspect you were talking about hoping it leaked earlier.

@ChiliTacos yeah i was talking about leaking months before or a month before

people who will buy it usualy will buy it on release

Tell me more about how (illegally) giving away a record for free is going to make people wanna buy it?

I'm not talking about diehard fans either. A leak months in advance is certainly going to hurt sales and chart position..

I didn't know that was a thing, but I ordered super quick and haven't heard anything from MN about that, so I hope that's not the issue. But they also forgot my copy of WYTTSY.

as a casual fan, if i hear the first single, like it, and can't hear more, i'm going to want to go pre order it. if it leaked, well then i can go download it and maybe i'll pre order it, but i probably won't. not sure what's hard to understand about that.

    What don't you see?

It's extremely disappointing to the artist and makes their marketing plan and roll out effectively useless. Imagine if the record leaked a month ago, the latest pre-release songs wouldn't matter. We'd all have heard them and owned them for free. Most people, other than a select few diehard fans, probably wouldn't see a reason to pay for the record (or stream it) if they already downloaded it for free. Not only does this affect sales, but it affects buzz around the release and diminishes the chances of a high charting debut.

and yeah i dont believe album leaks hurt sells one bit

its all about streaming these days and so once the album is out people will resume streaming it

or they'll keep playing their d/led copy and never stream it

yeah wich in that case, they probably wouldnt have streamed it anyway

How does that make sense? They wanted to hear the album, so they downloaded the leak. If it never leaked, they would've streamed it or bought it.

why wouldn't they? if it didn't leak, why wouldn't they stream it on release day?

because usualy people who download things like album leak dont buy it later unless they realy like it

    Trusted Prestigious

you said streamed it though, not buy it.

Leaks definitely hurt album sales. It's weird that this is even debated anymore. The illegal downloading culture the internet has created hurts album sales/the whole music industry, and leaks remove incentive to ever stream or purchase the album.

This is the exact point against a leak...

    all we have is time

You have to remember we're talking about thousands of people, not just you. If the album leaks and they lose 10 sales from it, they still lost 10 sales. It's a number, no matter how big or small. Not everyone thinks the same way you do. I know a lot of people who would plan on buying a record, but if they could get it for free they wouldn't end up buying it. Every single person is different. Giving people the option to steal it ahead of its release only gives an opportunity to hurt sales.
