Alchemy Fire is by itself maybe my favorite thing theyve ever done

Thrice is another band I’ve just never gotten into outside of Artist in the Ambulance

 

I used to like water and air more. But Fire has become my favorite

Start to finish album, Vheissu is the best. But Alchemy Index was my favorite because of how incredibly DIY the production job was and how ambitious they were and how much they NAILED it.

Teppei is a musical genius - not because of his guitar playing, which is great but overrated by pop punk kids who have never heard a jazz, classical, or prog band in their lives - but because of his vision. There was a whole blog about their recording process that I followed at the time.

He literally built the soundproofing in the walls of the home studio, built his own guitar pedals and mic preamps to go for the sounds he wanted, decided what gear to use on what album and where to place which microphones to capture that “element” of sound, used effects creatively to simulate water rushing and air blowing, and did four different production jobs on one album. And THEN played all the guitars and electronic drums / keys on it. I’ve never seen a band go that hard on an album without a $500k producer pushing them. Teppei himself did a $500k production job on a $100k budget.

yeah the making of stuff for alchemy is absolutely fascinating

 

I was so wrapped up in the NLCS last night I forgot there was football, wtf SF lost!!!??!?! Did they look like shit?

 

Alchemy Index is their best. It's wild how a band can make that and then a couple years later be like "hm, what if we were butt rock"

Yeah I don’t get this. It was basically downhill from there

if they kept doing Vheissu / TAI things I might be talking about them as one of the best post hardcore bands of all time

 

i'm a beggars guy but revisiting Vhisseu a ton before that tour in 2020 gave me stronger appreciation for it.
