it is not and the more you try to repeat that sentence the more pretentious it sounds

 

fine it's whatever word you want to call it. when the number gets in a certain range, 0% of players succeed. predictive, pretentious, prescription, whatever.

 

There's a lot of things that have never been done before in the NFL though, soemtimes that just comes down to the goal posts constantly moving, and different types of talent who played different types of ways in college constantly cycling in.

I have ranted plenty of times about how we badly underrate sacks as a negative QB play (see: Jeaux) and am fully on board with what you’re saying

with that said, my excitement only goes so far if he consistently avoids the sack only to sail a pass on Pittman and that aspect of his game doesn’t improve (which I think it can and should if Mr Glass can stay on the field)

 

and then the problem was when i raised a counterargument, featuring a QB that you are high on and I am not for variety... you dismissed it, believing yours to be more objective. But it really isn't because you need to factor in wayyyyy more information for a documented correlation to actually be used as a predictive statistic

There's a reason this is performed with AI math models in coding languages like R and no one is doing predictive analytics with an excel spreadsheet

 

fun fact - Joe Burrow is the cut off! So when I say no one above a certain line has ever been good, the guy right below that line had literally the best season in history

 

I'm not that high on AR? I'm much higher on Caleb. I dismissed the stats you brought up because there is not a strong correlation between them and NFL success - unlike the ones I was bringing up.

i understand pressures lead to sacks and positive regression is coming but my god at this rate we're gonna get 100 sacks in our last game of the season

 

yeah, and just so you know, this is pretentious. it's asserting greater weight / importance to an argument that doesn't actually carry that greater weight and importance. You tend to think you found the black and white answer in contexts where it doesn't work like that because there's too many variables and the thresholds for things are constantly adjusting.

 

that is literally not pretentious. things have different weight. it's not pretentious to point that out. thinking they're all weighed the same is black and white, not acknowledging the difference in relevance and actively seeking out the difference in that weight.

there is no golden stat that's gonna give you the ultimate "yes / no" on whether a prospect will be successful. Understand that framing a discussion in a way that fits your argument ITSELF is subjective when sports statistics are simply descriptive, they are not prescriptive

And it's wild to me you're not realizing that me taking data science classes and you avoiding any statistics courses like the plague means that I would understand this concept better than you would

i'm pointing out that what you're comparing does not apply on the same level of what I was saying. that's it. that's not pretentious to say one stat matters more, come on lol. I brought up X, saying when that happens there is a 0% hit rate. You brought up other things, I mentioned how the correlation between that and NFL success is not as strong and certainly nowhere near 0%.
