blink-182 - One More Time… (October 20, 2023) • Page 153

  1. That reviewer doesn't want to have fun. A lot of correct factual observations, but twisting it all into this narrative that the band is played out and grasping at straws, instead of lovingly threading together their history (dick jokes and all) into something new, is just kind of expected and boring.

The album is pretty damn good.

That they’re taking it even as something that should be reviewed cracks me up. Glad it matters enough now. (Maybe it’ll be another they have to delete and “revisit” in 20 years.)

It reads like someone got assigned the review on Friday and had a weekend to come up with why it’s only ok cause they’re Pitchfork. Line by line exactly as expected heh. Cold and never telling me how the music makes the author feel.

That review is actually lazy and kinda silly. Just one example: the writer takes Anthem p.3, quotes two lines, and says they don’t do much and are overstaffed with words. How did they make this conclusion? By comparing Anthem p.3 lyrics to ATST “minimalistic and cool” “Work sucks/I know” lines. WUT?!11

And these weird takes are all over the place. They really strange takes which only _seem_ smart, but really are not.

Anthem p.3 lyrics made me cry.

This song narrative, which actually you can find across the whole LP, is the new start for kind of old dogs. Sorry if it sounds corny maybe, English is not my first language. But you get the idea.

“Whatever I do, I won’t fail. So why not give something another shot, once again?”.

This… message, it is ALL I needed now. And many, many of us needed. And I believe Mark and Tom this time.

It’s not even some fucking tidal waves ripping through basket cases this time.

It’s honest AND simple truth now put in honest and simple words which totally work.

And the whole “I can do stuff and meet new ppl/reunite with old friends no matter what, I’ll try again one more time” LP’s message, it re-invents itself in an every song, and does it beautifully. Well, short joke songs aside. Or maybe not? When my inner evil voice trying to bring me down, I click FUCK FACE and continue to pursue my dreams.

So eff pitchfork, it’s unfair and not as nearly smart as it thinks review.

The only fair thing was praise for BLINK WAVE. Because even that artsy fella could not resist the awesomeness of that song

I’ll start a petition to correct this Pitchfork review score to perfect 10. And instead of its current text, there should be Jason’s review.

This is cool, like it way more than the last two. Edging, however, sounds like it’s from a completely different album. What’s up with that?

Almost definitely Edging was a label mandate to put the successful single on the album, it was written in a different session right?

Enjoying this more than expected. I like it more than the last two for sure, even if that might be it. Edging is definitely my least favourite song here, which is good news.

To me, this feels like them getting back into the swing of things after a long time. There’s some positive things here, and I think their next release could be a big improvement.

Even when a pitchfork review reads good, the max score is always like a 5.8 so that's not even that bad a score lol

There is some kind of "running gag" in one of Spains main newspapers where they send the oldest and grumpiest movie critic to all Marvel movies. I feel kind of the same with Pitchfork reviews.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I caught up with some old hometown friends for beers for the first time in years today. just got home and threw this on and it's hitting even harder than it already did. wasn't a huge title track enjoyer before but it's got me tearing up right now lol

My early impressions are it's a few steps below Nine. Probably above California and alongside Neighbourhoods. There's just a couple of tracks really not moving the dial for me at all.
