It's easy to say that when you're not the artist or the people the artist was speaking for or addressing in the song.

The song was about recognizing our veterans' sacrifices and politicians who have systematically neglected those Vietnam veterans sacrifices used it throughout the 80s as a rallying cry behind the American War Machine and the Cold War. I mean, my point is, if even one person pedals an ideology with the art you created that runs counter to the message you hoped to convey, it should be your right as an artist to assert the true meaning of the song from a position of artistic intent.

And your initial argument was that an artist's intepretation of their own work holds no more meaning than it's audiences various intepretations.

Nah, neither is even close. Both are longer than they should be, imo. Their only post-Static closers that wouldn't flirt with my top 10.

I think that's the worst one. Maybe if it were like six or seven minutes shorter, but I can't remember the last time I listened to that song all the way through other than on vinyl, and I only do it then because I'm too lazy to get up and stop it.

I mean an artist is free to speak on whatever they want to. I just think once an artist puts out music the interpretation is out of their hands. As it should be. As I already said, nationalist politicians will be nationalistic with or without the song. People, especially Bruce fans, know what the song means. Anytime it's used incorrectly hordes of people are quick to point it out. Thus, the song is not "destroyed"

Good for you? I love about six minutes of it and could live without the rest. Nothing about it justifies the length for me.

  7. That super long outro actually solidified my initial obsession with Clarity. I joke that in that long outro, JEW created trap music.

Im with you. The live version they were doing on the invented tour was sick though

I like it more now than I used to. I'm kind of just indifferent to it now. But I don't think it's even close to "23" or "Dizzy" in terms of quality or impact, and I think the long drawn out instrumental section is a big part of the reason why. Seeing it live was cool though. They did a nine minute version and it lost nothing.

That's how I wish is was on the album, haha. I slightly truncated version of the outro. Long enough to have the full build and decrescendo, not so long that it felt like it would never come to an end.

i thnk the reasons that lots of people always say oh the demo was so much better is because in contrast to the more balanced well produced(usualy) studio version,
the demo version will have things being extrmly loud and intense or overdone wich will sound very interesting
but on the long run wouldnt be interesting
i can compera it to someone who plays a g choard with this realy nice old fuzzy pedal the g choard will sound so much
kooler at first because of that i think its the same concept with demo songs

most people lack the long term vision and focus on the small atraction that these unbalanced things do

a producer/mixer will see things for the long run and make the song(usualy) well balanced

same, i love the way the details evolve very slowly and almost imperceptibly. also the first five minutes are the best post-hardcore song i've ever heard tbh
