Drink them! (With me so I can have some)

Drink them! I have heard a few people say the coffee flavor gets muted a bit when that variant is aged and also gets a bit of a soy sauce flavor.

Just picked up a couple bottles of Funky Buddha Last Snow at the grocery store. I was surprised to see it there, especially in large quantities. I've been on a little beer hiatus since my trip with the amount I drank, but this will be an exception. Cheers to the weekend!

Shitty picture of a newer Trillium beer. "Never & Again".

It's not very good. Like, at all. It's "aged on mangoes" but there's no fruitiness and it's just plain bitter, even compared to non-NE IPAs.

    but jeesus christ it's pretty

Yeah, my friends got one waiting for me but I heard it sucks. It was canned in mid-late September, they sat on it and released it this week, and they're telling people to wait a couple weeks to drink it. Kind of a bummer that they clearly know it came out bad but released it anyways. The trillium track record is so good that I can forgive it but it makes their general price point a little tougher to swallow. I feel like if you want to put out 22$ 4 packs you gotta be willing to dump a shitty beer.

Get multiple Big Bad Baptist bottles if you have the space to keep them at proper temp and out of the sun. I had a 2014 at Crunchys in East Lansing and it was fucking killer. The beer fresh is awesome -- especially at that price point -- but with age on it, it only gets better.

Picked up your bottle of JUICE today from Ellison. I'll send it out at some point in the near future. You want anything else that maybe gets distributed here that might not be around your parts of the state? Don't know what that would be, and I don't have any homebrews I could send, but I feel weird sending just one bottle, haha.

Made a trip up to Stowe this week to visit The Alchemist and got a four pack of Heady, one of Focal, and one of Crusher. The Alchemist can do no wrong. If you're ever in the area, the drive to Stowe is beautiful this time of year. I also grabbed a four pack of that Trillium/Amager Bryghus collaboration, Sigtebrod, last weekend and thought it was fantastic.

You rule! And I'm trying to think of anything that's come out that's not around here and I'm struggling haha. If you can think of anything else, I'm all ears, I'm definitely open to anything new.

I might swing by Lansing Brewing Company and grab a crowler or something. Any styles of beer you prefer over others?

It's been a long time, beer thread! I'm just excited because I picked up a couple bottles of Surly Darkness today, as well as a fresh IPA from a local brewery called Hubbard's Cave (the sister brewery of Une Année).

The IPA is supposed to be a NEIPA-style, fermented with Heady Topper yeast, and was bottled today. It was still cold from the bottling tank, so really stoked to try that tonight.

I bumped into, and subsequently, had a beer with my friend who does a ton of travelling for his business, so he's made a bunch of contacts across the country and his beer cellar is crazy. He also is a business consultant and consults with a few breweries and I got to pick his brain on the new NEIPA in town, which I think is killer. I felt pretty vindicated guessing things like the yeast and whatnot. It was an awesome chat and super informative. We talked a little bit about the theory that hop stand/whirlpool's with highly aromatic hops are wastes if you're going to heavily dry hop -- a double dry hop, for instance -- since anything in the whirlpool will just be covered up. Changing my ideas on some recipes now, all based on that conversation.

Looking for some new beers to try. Any suggestions?

    Some of my favorites:

    Founders Breakfast Stout
    Karl Strauss Aurora Hoppyalis
    Brewery Ommegang Rosetta
    Einstok Icelandic Toasted Porter
    Duvel
    Lindeman's Framboise
    Speakeasy Prohibition Ale

I live in San Diego and my go-to style is porter/stout, but I'm always open to trying new things!

shit dude, you live in San Diego? I don't even know where to start...... first off, take trips to local breweries. I suggest stopping by Modern Times, Stone, Ballast Point, Belching Beaver, AleSmith and Monkey Paw. Try whatever porter/stouts they have on tap and don't be afraid to try some out of the box ones.

Next I would say try a few more styles that would fit your taste. Porters and Stouts for sure, but give a shot to barrell aged versions of those. Try Belgian styles, specifically tripels and quads. Try out a triple IPA if you want to try IPAs but aren't as into the hop taste. Scotch Ale, Strong Ale, there are more options too.

Then... if you want specific choices based off what you listed, and what might be in SD, Firestone Walker beers from their Vintage series. Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout, Stone Toasted Porter, Stone Xocoveza, Stone Coffee Milk Stout, Modern Times City of the Dead, Ballast Point Victory At Sea, Ballast Point Calm Before the Storm.

anyway, that's a start. This thread is great, keep hanging out in here and have fun!

I go to college at UCSD, but I'm originally from the bay area. Yes, I definitely wanna check out more of the local breweries (there are so many!).

Thank you for all the recommendations! I'm definitely looking to try some more Belgian styles, because I've liked the few that I have had.

I actually just picked up Stone Xocoveza about a week ago! It's really, really good. I'll definitely keep your other recommendations in mind, and I'll let you know what I think if I try any of them.

I only turned 21 last January, so I'm a relative newbie, but using Untappd has been really helpful.

I hate the name Xocoveza. Always have to spell it 2-3 times before I get it right.

You're miles ahead of most 21 year olds. I was crushing bud heavy on the weekends with Blue Moon being my craft beer of choice when I was 21.
