can't be made fun of Prestigious

WWE deserved the win on paper, but id take ten of last nights Dynamite over one of last nights NXT

  2. NXT not going over a million with everyone and their mother announced is kinda wild.

Becky/Tiff match broke a million for their match a few weeks ago. Nothing went over that last night by the looks of it.

    Becks still the draw, brother

    look

I haven't watched either show yet so I can't comment which was better

but this was all worth it just to see Tony meltdown on twitter

  4. I definitely enjoyed AEW more last night. Swerve/Danielson alone cleared NXT

but Tony absolutely has to log off

AEW was not on their normal night and there was tons of sports competition. It’s actually pretty wild that 1.5 million people were watching wrestling programs that weren’t RAW or SD. That’s a win for everyone.

Did NXT trying to stack the deck really help that much?

On October 18th 2022 AEW got ~750k viewers for a Tuesday episode when they were normally averaging around 1m at that point. So a 25% dropoff.

Dynamite now has been doing more like ~850k viewers so that's a 28% dropoff. So I think without the legends on AEW, Dynamite is still probably only pulling in around 650k tops.

Sure the legends help NXT reach over 900k and without them they are probably more like 750 or so but to put all those big names on the show and not crack a milly is a bit embarrassing. They didn't need them to beat AEW (and honestly losing by 100k to a normal NXT show would look worse than loosing by 300k to one with the legends)

I could not give a flying fuck about tv ratings for scripted wrestling. That said, love you TK but go touch some grass man.

In a perfect world we’d have NXT black and gold when it was 1 hour, with insane stories and matches that paid off those stories at Takeovers around the world while AEW/NJPW go nuts with their style of wrestling presentation too.

NXT would work so so much better if it didn’t look like a mid 90s Nickelodeon kids TV show set. I miss the presentation from the old era around 2016-2018.

Fact is, AEW is ice cold right now. Every company in wrestling goes through it, and it’s been barely 4 years for AEW to truly feel cold compared to the E. 4 years ago, the E couldn’t have been colder because Vince. But now, WWE is as hot as I’ve seen it since Daniel Bryan was killing it.

I say all of that as a fan of pro wrestling with a preference for AEW and NJPW styles.

All it did was pull E drones who normally wouldn’t watch NXT in. I don’t think it actually persuaded anyone that normally watches AEW to switch over.

I think the “AEW is cold” statement is a bit of an overstatement. Sure the live attendance is down, but the last three PPV’s all did great with their buyrates and were critically acclaimed. The TV ratings for Dynamite and Collision are about what you’d expect. I think they really need to figure out the routing and planning of their live events though. They go to some places way too much and others not enough. They are doing way too many B/C markets that are more suited for house shows. The sales are so bad that they discount tickets so smart fans just wait for prices to fall. The PPV’s are still selling well for the live gate, but the TV show touring leaves much to be desired. I think the Elite needs to be focused on more. Seeing Kenny in trios matches is getting quite stale.

In the past year, Dynamite has hit 1 million twice, and 900k another 9 times. Since July, that is just 2 times over 900k

In 2022 they had just 9 shows below 900k and 4 of those were in the last two months of the year. They hit a million 13 times.

In 2021 they hit a million 15 times

So I'm not sure its fair to call it "Cold" just yet, but its certainly cooling off significantly and I don't think you can really call them "about what you'd expect" given they are well off from a year ago

Honestly, my takeaway is that the same 1.5-1.6 mil viewers that were there during the Wednesday Night Wars are basically still there….and stacking the deck brought in nobody new. I’m truly amazed WWE only popped an extra 100k for all they did…would have sworn they’d do a million+

AEW kept its demo, funny enough, but lost a bunch of 50+ year olds to Cena/Taker/Cody…which makes sense in retrospect
