Every trailer for this needs to have trigger warnings at least letting people going into this film blind what to expect

Thought this too. Hope that people do some homework on why this story exists before heading out to see it. I watched a documentary on the Von Erichs last year and had no idea about the tragedies and it kinda shook me.

 

I said earlier in this thread but again I would say anybody in here that is interested in this story, go watch Vice's Dark Side Of The Ring on Hulu. The first season has an episode about this story, but also episodes on Bruiser Brody and Gino Hernandez (who are also going to be characters in this film too)

 

Contemplating looking up the true story or going in blind. The trailer definitely gives away familial death but I’m sure the context is what makes it heavy.

 

go in blind, please. i normally couldn't care less about spoilers but this story is so insane it would be best if you didn't know a thing

Yeah lol you shouldn't try to know what happens (and I love to wonder what some of the people here who are blind think we're hyping up), plus I'm sure reviews/media around it will tell too much

 

can't wait for wrestling nerds (not the ones here) to go into this expecting sad ready to rumble whine about being bored by slow burn minimalist Sean Durkin (The Nest and Martha Marcy May Marlene are phenomenal! Go watch!)

I already spoiled myself but it's fine I'll forget it all and be too busy trying not to keep track of all the brothers by the time it's out

You'll call them by their shoot names Jeremy, Zac, Harris, and the one I don't recognize from anything.


(Also holy shit I've definitely talked about how Zac Efron is playing "Kerry Von Erich" mixing up his and Kevin's names)

My fear is if this does well some producer is going to be like "sad wrestling stories are so in right now" get in their mind that it is a good idea to do Chris Benoit movie next.

 

Remember hearing one was in development years ago with like, Liev Schreiber. No idea how true it was I guess

 

I just looked it up. It was going to.be directed by Lexi Alexander (Punisher: War Zone). David Benoit said the family hired a lawyer and got it shut down after they read the script and saw that they were planning to actually depict the murder/suicide as it happened on screen. Good for them.

 

On the opposite end, best case scenario is this does well and causes a producer to greenlight a tasteful movie about the Harts.

 

Rewatching the trailer and looking at the cast list...

are they completely ignoring Chris Von Erich

This whole time in the promo photos I thoughT David was supposed to be Mike and that Mike was supposed to be Chris. My guess is they thought 4 major tragedies, 3 of them similar would be too much and they are probably amalgamating Mike and Chris

 

Also I am guessing they are not going to show Parade of Champions '84 at Texas Stadium that would require a setpiece that I feel like would be too expensive for this movie. Even though that is a huge key moment in this story.

 

honestly i'm most intrigued by MJF's role in this as that will require actual acting
