I think Purdy is a solid QB. He’s executing the offense well and looks good, or at least competent, when I watch him play. I do think it’s worth pointing out that Kyle Shanahan also has a history of making bad QBs looks competent and competent QBs look good in his scheme. Jimmy G has gotten a ton of flak on this site, and some of it is deserved, but he is not a bad QB and, as Dave has mentioned, has taken the Niners to one super bowl and almost to a second two years later.

I think it’s fair to want a larger sample size on Purdy than less than a season’s worth of games. I think it’s also worth mentioning that his surrounding also make it significantly easier for him to succeed, both in terms of scheme and weapons. I wouldn’t necessarily ding Purdy a lot because it’s not his fault they have star playmakers at RB, WR, and TE, but it certainly makes things easier for him.

Obviously, without some of those weapons, Purdy’s face-level, statistical production, would take a hit. That’s fine, I don’t think passing yards and touchdowns and interceptions actually qualify how good a QB is or isn’t, which is why posting stats from Pro Football Reference to argue player x is better than player y is dumb. I would like to see how comfortable and in-command Purdy is though when things aren’t going sunshine and rainbows around him.

I’m sure someone could say the same about Hurts or other QBs, but, with the example of Hurts, there’s a larger sample size and there’s the fact that Hurts himself is a weapon with his legs. While his current surrounding are pristine (stud WRs, stud TE, stud OL), I’m more confident he would hold down the fort in the event of a couple key starters missing than Purdy would just based on the information currently available. When provided with new content, I’ll factor that into my opinion.

Also, if the Niners beat the Eagles in December, or worse in January, I will lose years off my life, no doubt

I thought that was a Randall post at first but since “Sacksonville” wasn’t mentioned 13 times, I knew it was someone else.

It's so annoying because he is the literal solo contrary data point in like 19 arguments, and all of them ignore that Carson Wentz was also on some weird MVP shit outta nowhere that season lol

That Eagles team is as close to a team of destiny as there is. Carson Wentz, Nick Foles, Alshon Jeffrey, Nelson Agholar etc etc etc all just playing out of their minds

Also, I know Alshon is a bit of a controversial player in Eagles lore after how the 2018 season went, but I’d just like to add that, in hindsight…

He was the first player that was fairly publicly known to have issues with Wentz, specifically how he was playing favorites on and off the field. Found himself at the forefront of the Wentz/Foles debates and was perceived as a locker room issue.

Then, of course, he dropped that crucial pass against the Saints in the playoffs that ended up bouncing into Marshon Lattimore’s hands to seal the game for the Saints when the Eagles were arguably on the verge of winning the game and going to the NFC Championship game

In 2019, his contract was unnecessarily restructured in the offseason, which drew the ire of fans and reporters, especially because his play began to decline. Then he suffered a Lisfranc injury later that year that ultimately led to his career fizzling out while he was still making a ton of money thanks to the restructure

    The rivalry is back on

The silly thing about the Purdy debate is that it’s all semantics between “solid/fine” and “good” and we’d probably all agree on where he relatively stacks up to other QBs (current production puts him above that Carr/Jimmy G/etc QB middle class, lack of sample keeps him from being in the conversation of the Herbert/Lawrence/etc low end of elite QB)

edit: I’m not actually going to read the 3 pages I missed to see if that’s actually true or not
