I am not seeing nearly as much condemnation of Israel bombing Gaza to rubble and killing civilians. I’m seeing pretty much none from politicians and media. It sure does seem like people are focused on Hamas, calling them terrorists (and applying that to all Palestinian violent resistance) and then calling what Israel is doing a counter attack. Altogether Palestinians are still seen as the aggressors and Israel defending themselves and reacting to a terrorist attack.

 

id say that’s still the majority, but I’m seeing way more statements and sentiments include something about Palestinians deserving to be free, living in bad conditions, calling actions on both sides bad, etc…then I ever remembered seeing in years passed

 

In my personal feeds (meaning people I personally know), I see some blaming Israel and viewing them as the root cause of all this. When it comes to what news videos or politicians that pop up, I only really see Pro Israel. I see a lot of “Israel is a major ally” and such. You’re right. The public message at large is pro Israel.

Also Murdoch has a media monopoly here, I won't even bother posting any of that but it's a very significant chuck of traditional media, last I heard estimated at upto 70% of print.

not too much of this hasn’t been covered in here, but there are some new insights. I would not begrudge anyone not to listen to Chapo however, I don’t think any of the things about people dislike about them really come across in this episode

 

Going to clarify a previous statements. Israel’s violence against Gaza is different in both scale and character than any Hamas has committed. I might be convinced that the scale is the major difference when we are talking about personal violence, war crimes committed by individuals in person face to face. But Israel’s worst crimes by orders of magnitude are not these crimes. Gaza does not have the ability to inflict collective punishment on Israel by cutting off their water, electricity, fuel, medicine, commerce, movement. Gaza does not have an air force, does not have an intelligence apparatus, does not have and take advantage of systematic opportunities to blackmail parents of sick children by disallowing from them seeking chemotherapy abroad - it is not available in Gaza - unless they become an Israeli intelligence asset. Even on “Israeli 9/11” Israelis do not understand a fraction of the terror of Gazan’s everyday existence

It also I think highlights effectively how the reporting on this will continue to unfold - major news sources will lean on these kinds of scary, emotional stories as well as mention unsubstantiated claims (i.e. choosing to mention beheadings they can't verify, etc.) to capture people's emotions. The folks in this thread and many of my friends are capable of adding their own context which is missing - the history of settler colonialism, barbarism against Gaza, etc. but people like my parents are going to read this and feel very, very differently. And that's not great! No mention of why there's a fence there in the first place. Not even a passing mention of why some of this might be happening.

Also just want to say on a personal note that I've lurked here since the AP days and y'all have formatively changed my perspective on so many things, so thanks for that.
