I just wanna see people say they support Palestine without any added caveats. Might be waiting a while I guess.

 

Maybe some people would like some others to acknowledge the slaughter of civilians is bad without immediately ignoring it as some bad but acceptable and expected thing.

 

The goal should be to turn as many people as sympathetic to the Palestinian cause as possible. There’s been a lot of good progress on that over the last two decades. More people I’ve seen than ever are seeing the worst terrorist attack since 9/11(?) and are still taking the time to point out Israel’s treatment of Palestinians and how it has lead us to that moment. But if you’re yelling at literally everyone who says hey what Hamas did was pretty heinous and accusing them of being anti-Palestinian freedom, and automatically assuming they aren’t just as bothered by Israeli brutality (knowing full well the media doesn’t really report on it enough for people to know how frequently it happens), then yes you’re just turning a lot of people off who could be potential allies on the issue. And it doesn’t help if you’re hand waving away things like people holding up swastikas or advocating for more than simply Palestinian liberation as “well that wasn’t the protest” without even saying “yeah that’s fucked up.” Lol. And this attack is looking more and more like terrorism than strategic battle to fight for liberation, so anything that makes you sound like you’re supporting indiscriminate murdering of people chilling in their homes or at music festivals, something Americans especially will probably be a little sensitive about given our mass shooting experiences, is probably not going to go over well.

 

idk how many times I’m gonna have to repeat myself here but yeah dude civilians being killed is bad that’s why its Israel’s fault this happened they’ve been killing civilians for an extremely long time on a scale that makes what Hamas did look tame by comparison. Still though that has little to do with whether or not people in this thread support Palestine. The actions of Hamas have not wavered my support for Palestinian liberation and they quite frankly never will.

I would say that’s not what people are saying is bad.

People in this case meaning people in our age cohort and younger, left wing people and further left liberals, etc. Obviously others, like the general neolib pundit class and milquetoast moderate politicians, are beyond help at this moment and won’t hear otherwise until some time has passed, if at all.

 

For someone so adamant about context, you seem to ignore it when it’s convenient for you.

By conflating the two and both-sidesing it, it allows the justification for Israel to be even more aggressive, rather than cede any aspect of their occupation. That’s why it’s so frustrating for this moment to turn into a demand for condemnation of Hamas, because it only entrenches the established aggression of Israel against Palestine.

Yea, all I’ve seen today outside of this thread and a couple friends is Biden and world leaders just backing Israel. Shit is fucked.

 

I don’t agree that people reading and reacting to some of the confirmed reports with horror or sadness automatically means they’re conflating the two. Biting peoples heads off simply for that emotional reaction is not going to get them to a place where they can understand any nuance, and certainly they won’t be ready to hear “hey don’t condemn that group that just killed 1500 people in one day” lol. But yes I agree it can entrench aggression, but I don’t think stopping people from condemning the attack is going to stop than from happening imo

At least if there is one thing remotely positive in all the negativity is that Bibi will be out after this is over, if not before. Even the people who stood by him in the past year when he was so close to being kicked out turned on him. People in Israel are ready to see him hang. That won't guarantee anything but at least it's a start.
